QPR are preparing for a new season in the Championship ahead.

There has been some turnover at the club this summer already with Mark Warburton having been replaced as manager.

Michael Beale has come in from his role as assistant manager at Aston Villa to become the new head coach at Loftus Road.

Warburton had the team competing for promotion last campaign, but a poor end to the season saw the club’s chances of a top six finish fade away fast.

That caused the hierarchy at QPR to opt for a change in management, with Beale chosen as the 59-year old’s successor.

The former Villa assistant will be hoping he can bring the team straight into a battle for the promotion places.

It has been seven years since the club last competed in the Premier League.

Here are eight of the most underwhelming QPR signings from recent times, and where they are now…

Caulker arrived on a big fee, believed to be £8.5 million, and yet he never really quite lived up to expectations at Loftus Road.

A surprising loan move to Liverpool interrupted an otherwise underwhelming four seasons with the London club.

Caulker also went on loan to Southampton after only one year with the club, with his stint eventually petering out to 48 league appearances, with zero of those coming in his final year at QPR.

Caulker is currently playing in the Turkish Super Lig with Gaziantep FK.

Cherry arrived in 2015 for a reported fee of £2.25 million, but never quite lived up to the billing of that transfer sum.

The Suriname international started just 47 games across two seasons in London before eventually departing for the Chinese Super League with Guizhou Heng.

The 34-year old currently went on to play in the Turkish Super Ligwith Kayserispor before signing for Maccabi Haifa in 2019, where he continues to play to this day.

QPR signed Fer from Norwich City in 2014 for a reported fee of £7 million, but failed to live up to expectations during his time in London.

The Dutchman spent two seasons in Loftus Road, starting 41 times in the league during that period and scoring only eight league goals.

QPR suffered relegation in his first season with the club, with Fer unable to steer the team away from the bottom of the table.

The 32-year old currently plays in the Turkish Super Lig with Alanyaspor, who came 5th in the table last season.

The German arrived in 2015 for the team’s first year back in the Championship and started only 18 times as the team finished 12th in the table.

The 31-year old scored 10 times over the two campaigns despite arriving for a fee reported to be around the £1 million mark.

Polter now plays for German side Bochum, who earned a 13th place finish in the Bundesliga last season.

The forward scored 10 times to help the team to a mid-table finish.

Sandro was a big name signing from Tottenham Hotspur, arriving for a fee reported to be £6 million.

On big wages, the Brazilian never lived up to expectations at Loftus Road and he was unable to help the team avoid relegation to the Championship.

Sandro spent four years at the club and took up a significant burden on the club’s wage bill.

He eventually left for Turkey, before eventually ending up at Portuguese side Belenenses in 2021.

Sylla arrived at QPR for a reported fee of £1.75 million in 2016. Despite a promising start, the forward ultimately underwhelmed during his time at the club.

The Guinea international departed after only two seasons at Loftus Road.

The 31-year old signed for Belgian side Zulte Waregem when he left London, but has since moved on to compete with Farense in Portugal.

Sylla helped the club to an 11th place finish in the second division.

Ferdinand signed from Manchester United as a multiple time Premier League winner, a Championship League, FA Cup and League Cup champion and England international.

Yet his time at QPR underwhelmed immensely as it became clear that he was past his best at Loftus Road.

The defender ultimately ended his career after only one season with the London club and has since taken on a punditry role at BT Sport, where he works alongside many fellow ex-professionals and Jake Humphrey.

Bonne signed for QPR for a reported undisclosed fee, but has not been able to string together a successful run of games in the first team squad.

The player ended up on loan with Ipswich Town last season where he helped the club to an 11th place finish in League One.

He performed well, scoring 12 goals in the season, and will now return to QPR ahead of the summer transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether the 26-year old still has a career at Loftus Road.
