This coming summer is set to be a fun one if you are a Hull City fan, as the Acun Ilicali era promises to have lots of transfer business - potentially both in and out of the MKM Stadium.

The Turkish media mogul took over from the Allam Family back in January, and he was able to provide Shota Arveladze with a few fresh faces for the final months of the 2021-22 campaign - and it was enough to keep the Tigers in the Championship.

That only scratched the surface of what Ilicali's ownership is capable of, and there is excitement not just in East Riding of Yorkshire but also in his native Turkey, as a plethora of talent have been linked with a move to Hull already - and the transfer window has only been officially open for just over a week.

Over the years though, there have been players who have arrived at City with a lot of promise, but in the end failed to deliver.

Let's look at eight players who did not live up to expectations in their time as a Tigers player.

Once a very highly thought-of youngster at Arsenal and at England youth level, Crowley's career did not take off,  and in the second half of the 2020-21 season when Hull were gunning for promotion from League One, the midfielder arrived on loan from Birmingham City.

A step down a level should have potentially seen Crowley get back to being creative, but in his 22 appearances for the Tigers he didn't start much at all, with Grant McCann preferring others in the middle of the park.

Crowley joined Cheltenham Town for the first half of the season just gone, before returning to former club Willem II in the Netherlands in February.

Martin has played for a wide array of British clubs, but he joined Hull on transfer deadline day in August 2018 on a season-long loan - his eighth different outfit at that time.

During his career, Martin had hit double figures in five separate Championship campaigns, but he failed to find that form at the MKM Stadium.

In 30 league appearances for Hull, Martin scored just twice before heading back to Derby County for one more season, so he'd have to be classed as a disappointment.

Martin is now at Bristol City at the age of 33, where he has just come off the back of a 12-goal season, so there's still life in him.

Mazuch was brought in by Leonid Slutsky in the summer of 2017 to bolster the club's centre-back options, having played for clubs like Fiorentina and Anderlecht earlier in his career.

Despite being in what should have been the prime of his career though, Mazuch was barely used and appeared just 14 times in his debut season, and then played in just seven games during the 2018-19 season.

The Czech Republic international was let go at the end of his contract having not shown much in his time at the club - he has been at Teplice in his home nation since January 2021 but he is set to leave at the end of the month.

Like the aforementioned Crowley, Toral came through the Arsenal youth system but also was at Barcelona during his early years, so there was clearly a talented player there.

Toral signed for the Tigers on a permanent basis in 2017 for £3 million following loan spells at the likes of Brentford, Birmingham City and Rangers, however injuries and fitness concerns restricted the Spaniard to just 56 appearances in all competitions.

Despite showing flashes of class, Toral failed to show it on a regular basis and was just unable to because of injury for some of it - he headed back to Birmingham following his 2020 departure and last summer he signed for Greek outfit OFI Crete.

Following a pretty successful loan spell at Hearts in Scotland in 2017-18, Milinkovic joined Hull in the summer of 2018 from Genoa.

The Frenchman though did not hit those heights at Hull, appearing just eight times in the Championship and just a year-and-a-half into his contract he was heading on loan to MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps.

It hasn't gone well for the winger full stop since joining Hull - Vancouver signed him permanently in 2021 but six months later he signed for Italian side Messina - a team he has now departed and is a free agent.

Having always excited for Peterborough United, Maddison joined Hull and his former manager Grant McCann in January 2020, stepping up a level from League One, where he had scored nine goals in 22 appearances.

The second half of the campaign did not go well for the winger at all though - he scored just one goal in seven appearances and when football returned from a three-month break following the outbreak of COVID-19, he did not return to the Tigers following his contract expiry with Posh.

He could have produced a lot more in his short time at the club, but it wasn't to be - since then he signed for Charlton Athletic and was then loaned to Bolton, but retired from the professional game after losing enjoyment for it in 2021.

Maddison did however sign with non-league Spalding United in May 2021, however he barely featured this past season and it's unclear as to whether he's still at the club or not.

One of the few players who arrived in the January transfer window just gone who Hull fans could get excited about was Forss, who had proven himself as a Championship goal scorer at Brentford in the season prior.

Having not gotten much of a chance for the Bees in the Premier League, Thomas Frank let the Finland international depart for the last few months of the season, but he failed to make an impact.

Forss netted just once in 11 appearances but only started five of those, so it must have been a disappointment for all concerned that not only did he not score much, but he also didn't feature too much either.

Having spent time on loan at Peterborough, Blackburn and Burton Albion from West Ham United, Samuelsen ha experience of the EFL when joining the Tigers on a permanent basis in 2020 at the age of 22.

The Norwegian was fresh off a productive season with Haugesund in his home nation, where he scored 14 times before signing for Hull, but he could not replicate that form at the MKM Stadium.

Samuelsen played just 18 times in all competitions before joining Danish side Aalborg in February 2021, and just a few months later he returned to Haugesund - this time on a permanent basis - ending his disappointing time at City.
