Nottingham Forest are enjoying a fine campaign under Steve Cooper this season, with the Reds set for what could be an exciting climax to their season.

Currently, Forest sit 5th in the Championship standings with five games left to play, with two of those being games in hand on most of the teams around them.

That gives the Reds a great chance of finishing inside the top six, and once they’re in the play-offs, they would surely be one of the favourites given their current form.

Whether Forest go up or not, there is bound to be incomings and outgoings at the City Ground this summer.

If promoted, Forest will look to make additions to strengthen their squad, or if they don’t go up, Steve Cooper will look to make additions that could help them get over the line in terms of promotion next campaign.

If that is to happen though, outgoings will also need to be made, and here, we’ve picked out eight players we think could leave the club this summer, whether it be via release, sale or loan.

One player that could be on their way out of Forest this summer is centre-back Tobias Figueiredo.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at the club this summer, according to Transfermarkt, and as yet there have been no announcements regarding a new deal has been struck.

The Portuguese defender has had to make do with a deputy role at the City Ground for the second half of the season and as a result has only appeared in 24 of the Reds’ Championship matches in 2021/22.

Due to the contract situation, we think he’s one that could be on the way out this summer.

Another player in a similar situation to Tobias Figueiredo is Lewis Grabban, whose contract at the City Ground also expires this summer, according to Transfermarkt.

Grabban has been at Forest for a while now having joined the club first in 2018/19, and has made just shy of 150 Reds appearances so far – a landmark he would like to hit in the coming weeks, no doubt.

The striker has scored 12 goals in 31 Championship appearances this campaign, but, as far as we know, that hasn’t been enough to earn him a new deal.

At 34-years-old, perhaps Forest have their doubts.

The third and final player on this list that is out of contract at the club this summer and we think will leave as a result is defender Gaetan Bong.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed two years at the City Ground, but appearances have been hard to come by this campaign, featuring in just seven league matches and not in any of Forest’s cup games.

Due to the above, it seems inevitable that the Cameroon international is heading for the City Ground exit door this summer.

The first player that we think will be sold this summer and that’s Nuno Da Costa.

Da Costa isn't currently playing his football in Nottingham given he is on loan at Ligue 2 outfit Caen.

The 31-year-old has scarcely featured for the Reds since he joined the club in January 2020 and his contract is due to expire this summer.

We think the club could trigger that extension and cash in on the Frenchman when the transfer window next opens.

In terms of a player that would benefit from a loan spell away from the club for more regular game time, we think Loic Mbe Soh is a candidate.

Mbe Soh joined the Reds from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2020 but has featured just nine times in the league for the club.

At 20-years-old he has plenty of room to improve and grow as a defender, and we think a loan spell with a club where he would feature regularly could really accelerate his development.

Xande Silva is another player that we can see leaving the City Ground this summer.

The 25-year-old's contract is up in the summer of 2023 and as a result, we think Forest may opt to try and cash in on the Portuguese winger with one year left on his deal.

Silva has barely featured for Forest this campaign, making just seven Championship appearances after joining the club in 2021.

Although some of that is due to injury, it could be argued that Forest will try to move him on this summer and if not, perhaps a loan could suit.

Portuguese midfielder Cafu is another player that may be heading for pastures new when the summer transfer window arrives.

Much like his compatriot Xande Silva, Cafu’s current Forest deal expires in the summer of 2023 and therefore the club must either cash in this summer or risk losing him for free.

If Forest are promoted to the Premier League, for example, surely they will be looking to upgrade their midfield, and as a result, Cafu would fall even further down the pecking order – which isn’t good when you’ve only made 11 Championship appearances this campaign.

A parting of ways this summer then, could make sense for both club and player.

Last but not least, another player we think could benefit from a loan spell away from the club is Oliver Hammond.

Hammond has sniffed first team action in the Carabao Cup but is yet to make a real breakthrough with the Reds, which is understandable given he is only 19-years-old.

We think though, that a loan move for the Welshman could be a positive step in his development if he is to remain a Forest player going forwards.
