Formed 134 years ago, Shrewsbury Town has a rich history at both Football League and non-league level, with the Shrews having competed in various divisions over the years. 

In present day, the Shropshire club are currently sitting in 16th place of League One, with the club still very much finding their feet in the division after being promoted back in 2015.

The club commonly goes by four nicknames: The Shrews, The Blues, Salop and Town.

Formed back in 1886, the Shrews were only elected to the Football League in 1950, and have since gone to enjoy a successful history.

The club has previously competed in the Welsh Cup, winning the historic competition on six separate occasions.

Since being elected to the Football League, the club has only spent one term outside of the EFL, with the Shrews having plied their trade in the Conference Premier back in the 2003/2004 season.

The club possesses several rivalries with Hereford United being the biggest of the lot alongside Chester FC, Wrexham, Walsall, Wolves, Port Vale and last but by no means least AFC Telford.

Shrewsbury Town's crest has always featured at least one lion's head, with the club having adopted the animal on their badge in tribute to the town's coat of arms.

Various reports and records claim that the club itself was formed in the Lion Hotel, with the origin of it's formation still remaining a mystery to some extent.
