Lincoln City are one of the most reputable and well known clubs in the entire EFL, with the Imps boasting a history of over 136 years after forming back in 1884. 

In more recent times the Lincolnshire outfit have experienced a good level of success, with the League One club winning the fourth division last term under the stewardship of their former manager Danny Cowley.

This term Cowley has since departed for pastures new with Huddersfield Town, with Michael Appleton coming in to steady the ship, with the Imps currently sitting comfortably in 14th place of the third division standings, thus seeing them safe from the threat of relegation on paper.

The club was given it's nickname after the legend of the Lincoln Imp, which depicts a creature sent by Satan to the city's cathedral.

The Imps have only ever plied their trade at two stadiums since coming into existence, with the club moving to Sincil Bank from their only previous ground, the John O'Gaunts ground, back in 1895.

Back in 1921, the club were founder members of the Football League Third Division North, as it was known back in those days, with the Imps going on to win the league on several occasions following it's formation.

The club boasts three local rivals, with Grimsby Town, Scunthorpe and Boston United offering up the opposition for some feisty clashes over the years.

The club only established it's women's team in April 2019, with it being announced that Nettleham Ladies FC would be rebranded as Lincoln City Women from 1st June.

Lincoln City's promotion to League One last term represented their first season in the third tier since the 1998/1999 campaign.

Back in the 2016/2017 season, Lincoln became the first non-league club to progress to the last eight of the competition since 1914 after beating Premier League Burnley.

The club made their first and only ever appearance at Wembley Stadium during the 2017/2018 season, beating Shrewsbury Town 1-0 to lift the EFL Trophy.
