The race for promotion in Sky Bet League One has picked up pace in recent weeks, with it looking likely that it will be two from three claiming automatic promotion, with Wigan Athletic, Blackburn Rovers and Shrewsbury Town all the in hunt.

Wigan currently hold a five-point lead at the top of the table, but Blackburn are coming on strong, moving above Shrewsbury on goal difference recently, with Tony Mowbray’s side looking a good bet to clinch an instant return to the second-tier.

Rovers are on a sensational run of form in League One, with Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Fleetwood Town a 16th match unbeaten in the league, as Mowbray’s side continue to show their promotion credentials to the rest of the division.

Mowbray has already moved to add Amari’i Bell to his squad this month, but with just eight days of the window remaining, he could be looking to do a little bit more business ahead of February.

Here at FLW, we take a look at TWO Championship players Blackburn could make a move for…

James Bree – Aston Villa

The Aston Villa full-back has struggled for a regular opportunity under Steve Bruce this season, with the likes of Alan Hutton and Ahmed Elmohamady often preferred.

Bree, 20, undoubtedly has a long-term future at Villa Park, but a loan move this month could be on the cards.

Blackburn will only be looking to add quality to their squad this month, and if they can secure a temporary deal for Bree it would be a real coup.

Zach Clough – Nottingham Forest

The ex-Bolton forward has struggled for opportunities at Forest this season, and any move from Blackburn would admittedly be ambitious.

However, Mark Warburton used Clough sparingly during his time at the City Ground, and although there appears to be a chance for the 22-year-old under Aitor Karanka, Forest could still be tempted by a loan move.

Clough has unbelievable ability and would be a huge success in League One.

Signing someone of Clough’s calibre could put Blackburn well in the race for the title.
