Last year was a bit of an up and down one for West Brom.

After starting the season under the management of Valerien Ismael, a poor run of form saw him dismissed from his duties in February.

Steve Bruce came in as his replacement although things didn't go quite to plan considering the Baggies had sat fifth in the league when Ismael left.

Nevertheless, Albion improved their form towards the end of the season and ended up with a solid tenth place finish.

Finishing the league sat eight points away from the top six, Steve Bruce is aiming to restructure his side this summer to ensure they are able to break into those positions next season.

This is also Bruce's first summer as manager at the Hawthorns meaning he has the chance to put his own stamp on the side.

With that in mind, here we take a look at eight free agents that West Brom could consider adding to their ranks this summer.

As it stands, West Brom have two goalkeepers on their books going into next season in David Button and Alex Palmer.

Button made ten league appearances for the Baggies last season whilst Palmer got an appearance in the EFL Cup.

The two goalkeepers represent the two extremes in the side with Button 33-years-old and reaching the end of his career whilst Palmer is 25-years-old but possibly lacks the experience to be a number one in the Championship.

Admittedly Alex Smithies is also 32-years-old so is himself reaching the latter stages of his career but as the season edges closer, Bruce will be less spoilt for choice.

Furthermore, Smithies played regularly for Cardiff in the Championship last season making 29 appearances meaning he has more solid game time under his belt coming into the season.

Ben Foster is another goalkeeper who is the wrong side of 30. However, given his experience is not someone you can write off.

The 39-year-old made 26 appearances for Watford in the Premier League last season whilst playing regularly in the three seasons prior.

During his time with West Brom in the top flight, the goalkeeper played regularly and impressed during his long spell with the club.

The Sun recently reported that the player was training with the club although not actively looking for a goalkeeper.

However, if Bruce decides this is an area he does need more depth in, Foster would be a solid option for him.

Okay Yokuslu would be a good addition to West Brom's side on a free transfer this summer and according to the Express and Star, the Baggies are looking to bring him in this summer.

Having spent time on loan with the club in the 2019/20 season, the midfielder was popular during that time and got himself a solidified place in the side.

Although the season overall was a poor one for the Baggies, Yokuslu proved himself to be a bright spark in the side and could no doubt replicate such performances next season.

Gary Cahill is now a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Bournemouth.

The 36-year-old made 22 appearances for the Cherries last season having his part to play in the side's promotion back to the top flight.

As someone with plenty of experience in the top two leagues and the ability to play regularly throughout the season, this could be a solid addition at the Hawthorns.

Not only is he a reliable head on the pitch but his experience will also make him a great leader in a side pushing for promotion.

Yoann Barbet is another solid defensive option for Bruce to consider for next season.

The 29-year-old left QPR this summer but was a core part of the Rangers squad last year and showed his quality throughout the season.

The left-back is a solid defender but also possesses the ability to push forward at the right times too.

Again, as a player with Championship experience under his belt already, he could no doubt add both on and off the pitch in a side pushing to go for promotion.

Lukas Rupp could add to West Brom's midfield next season.

The 31-year-old made 19 appearances for Norwich City in the top flight last year and his time with the Canaries has given him the experience of competing at the top of the Championship providing more experience for Steve Bruce.

Despite suffering relegation from the top flight last year, Rupp is an intelligent player who has a good footballing brain that the Baggies could make use of in their side.

Josh Murphy has faced a hard number of years and is out of regular game time but his quality cannot be written off.

Although the 27-year-old only made 12 league appearances on loan with Preston North End last season, he has proven his quality in the Championship for most of his career for numerous sides showing he does know what it takes to succeed in this league.

He seems to be a player who could fit well into a Steve Bruce side and a new project this summer could do the player some good as well.

The 34-year-old turned down the opportunity to stay with Nottingham Forest upon their promotion to the top flight last season suggesting he is a player looking for regular minutes meaning a move back to the Championship would make sense.

Last season, he scored 12 goals for the Reds and was a core part of the side that gained promotion to the Premier League.

He clearly knows what it takes to be part of a successful side in this league and could no doubt replicate similar levels to the ones he did last year.
