Huddersfield Town will be eager to go one better during the 2022/23 campaign after they were narrowly edged out at Wembley by Nottingham Forest in the play-off final.

Enjoying a mightily impressive season, Carlos Corberan's side defied the odds to secure third spot, defeating Luton Town in the semi-final of the play-offs before a loss to Forest confined them to another season in the Championship.

Naturally, expectations will be high next season, and rightfully so, because the squad has shown that they are more than capable to go toe-to-toe with the top teams.

Should they be able to keep the core of the squad together, then it is not expected to be a busy summer from a recruitment perspective, but that is not to say that they will not add over the next couple of months or so.

Here, we take a look at eight Championship players Huddersfield could look at signing during the summer transfer window...

Should Lewis O'Brien depart, then one relentless and technically gifted midfielder that the Terriers should look at is Millwall's Billy Mitchell.

Unlikely to be a cheap deal for the Terriers to complete, the exciting midfielder, who is still just 21 years of age, represents an excellent investment opportunity with resale value.

However, his tenacity, class and intelligence makes him someone who could be a real star int eh Championship, with Mitchell impressing at The Den this season.

Another player that could be an excellent pick-up, if they were to generate funds through player sales is Barnsley's versatile midfielder Callum Styles.

The Hungarian international is currently being looked at by the three promoted clubs, but with a move to England's top-flight likely to mean less game time, a move to an ambitious Championship club like Huddersfield could be prioritised.

A player with excellent vision and levels of creativity, the left-footed Barnsley man is also extremely versatile and could thrive in multiple positions.

Sticking on the theme of Barnsley players, Michal Helik is just too good to be heading down to League One and he is deserving of a top-end Championship move.

Likely to be a cheaper deal to complete given he has one year remaining on his current deal at Oakwell, Helik's overall defensive dominance and ability to play out from the back would make him a perfect addition.

Huddersfield's defence is already looking rather strong, however, a cut-price deal for a player like Helik must be worth looking into.

Looking at another team who will be playing their football in League One next season, and are sneakily included as a Championship club, Peterborough United's Harrison Burrows is an exciting attacking option.

The 20-year-old, who featured 37 times in the league for Posh last season, possesses excellent cutting edge and final third productivity and would again be a perfect investment opportunity.

Burrows has excellent potential and is already of Championship-level quality.

He is likely to attract interest this summer.

Robert Snodgrass is currently considered a fresh deal at Luton Town, however, with the Hatters possessing the lowest budget in the Championship, they are unlikely to be able to offer a deal that Huddersfield could for an example.

Noticeably making a difference during this short stint with the Hatters, and causing problems for the Terriers defence in the play-offs, Snodgrass could be a shrewd addition on a one-year deal.

Possessing a wand of a left foot and excellent levels of energy and desire, he could be a great free agent signing.

If Sorba Thomas was to be sold this summer, then finding a creative option will emerge as a swift priority one would think.

One player who could fit the ball in that respect would be Blackpool's Josh Bowler.

Whilst he is attracting interest from the likes of Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, now in the Premier League, Huddersfield's ambitious nature, combined with the promise of more game time could play a big role if they were to set their sights on him.

Sticking on the possibility that a Premier League club comes in with an irresistible offer for Thomas, then a move for a player like Grady Diangana would make sense.

Possessing evident quality that has seen him take the Championship at storm at times during his career, he struggled for large parts during the chaos at West Brom last season.

As Albion look to head in a new direction, it would be no surprise if they entertained bids for Diangana, granted, he would cost a lot of money.

Going back to adding something different up top, and also going back to Barnsley, Carlton Morris is a player that would add real value to a club like Huddersfield.

A relentless worker off the ball, his pace and athleticism serves him well when looking to get in behind defences, proving to be somewhat of a talismanic figure at Barnsley last year.

He is another of a few Barnsley players that do not deserve to be playing in the third tier next season.
