Bolton Wanderers look set to finish the League One campaign in tenth place, with the third-tier coming to its conclusion on Saturday afternoon.

The Trotters, who will probably deem this season to be a positive one in the grand scheme of things, won promotion from League Two last time out.

Currently on a seven-game unbeaten run, they will be eager to finish the campaign on a high at home to Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Despite the competition levels of the third-tier reaching a very high level this season, and a continuation of that theme being likely next season, Bolton will be ambitious as to what they can achieve next year, with this campaign acting as a platform to build upon.

Whilst we wait and see whether the Trotters can hold on to their 10th place position when the final day of the season, here, we take a look at eight Bolton players who could be sold, loaned, or released in the summer...

Bolton could part company with Alex Baptiste in the summer, with the 36-year-old not playing a single minute of league football since the turn of the year.

The experienced defender proved to be a vital figure for the Trotters during their promotion from League Two last year, however, competition levels has soared through the roof.

With his contract expiring in the summer, it would appear that Baptiste is someone who may leave the University of Bolton Stadium.

Liam Gordon is another who has seen very little minutes as the campaign has progressed, with the 22-year-old featuring 13 times in the league this season.

The 22-year-old has been confined to 30 minutes of League One football since the turn of the year, and with a contract expiring in the summer, he could be another who is allowed to find a new club.

Predominantly a left-back, Gordon had been tasked with operating on the opposite flank this season.

Appearing 11 times without scoring during the first half of the season, Nathan Delfouneso embarked on a loan spell with League Two club Bradford City in January.

Unable to make much oaf a real impact with the Bantams thus far, the 31-year-old is yet to score in the six further games he has played in Bradford colours.

Delfouneso is another who sees his contract expire in the summer and is likely to be released by the Trotters.

Reiss Greenidge becomes the fourth and final person whose Bolton contract expires in the summer who features on this list as a potential player who could be released.

The defender has featured regularly for Barnet in the National League this season, with the jump to the top end of League One appearing to be a bit too high.

The 25-year-old has not featured too often for the Trotters but could still be a coup within the Football League.

Ricardo Santos is quite easily a player who could earn himself a move to the Championship this summer, with Ian Evatt previously stating that he expects second-tier level interest.

The 26-year-old has been an integral figure for the Trotters this season, appearing 37 times in the league and captaining this die more often than not too.

A player with excellent levels of athleticism, physicality and defensive intelligence, it would be no surprise to see interest surfacing this summer.

Similarly, Oladapo Afolayan is someone who could be playing their football in the Championship - or even in the Premier League - next season, with Cardiff City and Fulham already emerging as interested parties.

The exciting winger has been a constant source of creativity and chaos in Bolton colours this season, making it no surprise that higher level interest has surfaced.

Afolayan has chipped in with 12 goals and six assists in League One this season, in what has been a brilliant campaign for him.

There has been no indication that interest might emerge in George Johnston, however, the 23-year-old has shown signs of real excellence during this campaign.

The young defender possesses the necessary levels of physicality and athleticism to win his defensive duels, whilst he is also an excellent ball carrier and passer of the ball.

Having Johnston for another season will certainly help the ambitious club but they will be prepared for an interest.

Luke Hutchinson is someone who could, and probably will, embark on another loan spell during next season, as the Trotters try to prepare him for the rigours of first-team football at the University of Bolton Stadium in the future.

Joining Atherton Collieries of Northern Premier League during the campaign, a move to the National League/South could be deemed as the appropriate next step.

Equally, they could look to keep him at the club, as they look to commence their B team.
