Despite failing to make the play-offs, Sheffield United have enjoyed a fine first season back in the Championship and are guaranteed a top-half finish.

Whilst that won't satisfy ambitious manager Chris Wilder given the position the Blades were in for large parts of the season, he should still be pleased with how his side have coped on the whole.

However, if they are to kick-on in the years to come, it's clear that they need to bring more players in to improve.

Given the situation off the field at the minute, Wilder can't expect a massive budget this summer but he has shown in the past that it doesn't matter.

One man who could improve the Blades is Michael Jacobs, who starred for Wigan in League One this season.

The creative attacking midfielder notched 12 goals and registered eight assists in a very productive campaign and would provide the Yorkshire side with an unpredictability that they often lack.

David Brooks is capable of beating players and feeding passes and Mark Duffy can from a deeper role but it's still not enough.

Jacobs would bring that extra bit of class and composure to the team that could make all the difference against sides who the Blades are struggling to break down.

At times they have been easy to defend against but Jacobs would change that.

Ultimately, Wilder needs to make slight tweaks to his squad if they are going to go one better next season and Jacobs would be a smart addition.
