Coventry have continued to shine in the Championship since their promotion back into the second tier - and part of the reason is because of Gus Hamer.

The 25-year-old first joined up with the Sky Blues as they were looking for fresh faces to help them out after their promotion and he was somehwhat of an unknown quantity in England.

Unless you were an avid follower of PEC Zwolle or Dutch football, the chances are you were probably unfamiliar with the midfielder. Now, after two barnstorming seasons with Coventry, everybody in the EFL is aware of just who he is.

So much so, in fact, that there is often plenty of interest in stealing him away from the Sky Blues. That is the case again this summer, with Fulham looking to swoop for his services according to The Sun and could give him the chance to try his luck in the Premier League.

The Cottagers themselves need fresh faces this offseason as they prepare for life back in the top flight - and they could do a lot worse than Hamer. Do his numbers suggest a player that is capable of making the jump up though?

The answer is a resounding yes if you look at his stats from last season in the Championship.

That's because, for a midfielder, he does everything you would want from someone in his role and more. For example, let's take a look at his passing ability. For someone who is expected to sit in the centre of the field and dictate the play, the 25-year-old has proven that he can do it with ease.

Last term, he had a 79.5% pass accuracy rating and averaged just over 48 per game with his long ball totals still faring well at six per game and 56.2& accuracy. It shows that whether he's keeping the ball on the floor or lofting it forwards towards an attacking player, he can certainly pick out and find his man.

He also produced an accuracy rating of 66.7% with balls into the oppositions half - impressive when you consider he had 396 in total over the course of the season.

It's not just offensively that Hamer shines either. With an average of 8.52 ball recoveries in the opposition's half per 90, it shows that he isn't afraid to put a foot in or to press high and win the ball back for his team in a dangerous area. In general, he also averages 8.84 defensive duels won per 90 too despite playing in midfield rather than as part of a backline for the Sky Blues.

Hamer then seems to be the full package and is a player that shows no signs of slowing down in his progress or development.

Whilst he has yet to be tested in the Premier League, it appears as though, based on his numbers, he would be a shrewd signing for the Cottagers and could similarly take the top flight by storm too.
