With nearly 40 senior players on their books and the summer transfer window drawing ever closer to an end, the time has come for Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi to get rid of the deadwood.

The Reds have made a positive start to the season, picking up two home wins in the space of the week against Birmingham City in the league and Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup - a night where they made nine changes to their starting line-up from the one that faced Leeds before.

It's evident that Forest have a massive squad, with plenty of players out of favour under Lamouchi and failing to make any sort of impact whatsoever due to various circumstances.

This week, the Reds have bid farewell to midfielder Adlene Guedioura, with the midfielder completing a move away from the City Ground and joining Qatari side Al Gharafa.

The 33-year-old is a fans' favourite on Trentside, having made over 100 appearances for the East Midlands outfit across three different spells with the club.

The Algerian has a really close affinity with the City Ground faithful, as shown by his most recent Instagram post, but with feelings put to one side, was it the right decision to get rid of the midfielder this summer?

We take a look at his statistics from last season to give us a detailed answer...

Guedioura was a regular under Aitor Karanka in the first half of last season, but made only a handful of starting appearances for the Reds when Martin O'Neill took the reins in January.

He started the season off really well indeed, forming a solid partnership in midfield with Newcastle loanee Jack Colback, scoring his first goal of the season and arguably putting in his best individual performance of the campaign against West Brom.

The midfielder made 28 appearances for Forest in all competitions last season, playing a total of 1,958 minutes for the Reds. He was used mostly in a 4-2-3-1 formation under both Karanka and O'Neill, where his role was focused on breaking up play and providing defensive steel.

Defensively, Guedioura was solid, making 101 interceptions in total which was slightly less than both Colback and Ben Watson, who made 164 and 133 respectively.

Guedioura also won 50.8% of his duels throughout the season too, due to his combative, tenaciousness nature in the middle of the park.

Going forward, though, the Algerian really came to life, accruing a total pass success rate of 78.8%, as well as adding two assists over the course of the season, meaning that he was a perfect player in an Aitor Karanka side that loved to keep possession of the ball.

As well as getting on the scoresheet twice last season, Guedioura would have been pleased with his efforts overall, but due to the likes of Samba Sow, Tiago Silva and Alfa Semedo all arriving at the City Ground, the Algerian eventually became victim to an array of managerial changes on Trentside.
