West Ham have been linked by Sky Sports with a bid for Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck, with a fee of £4m being touted as a possible starting point.

The former Rangers and Coventry man has started 28 times in the Championship for Chris Wiler's side this season as they climbed to third in the table. They're in with a serious shout of an automatic promotion spot, with Fleck instrumental in that surge.

With interest mounting in the 27-year-old, how much of a blow would it be if Wilder lost his midfield general? In our latest FLW Spotlight piece, we look at his impact over the last two seasons since the Blades returned to the Championship:

Fleck has been with the Blades since the summer of 2016, helping them to promotion from League One in his first season. We're looking at his impact after promotion, in the Championship as they've first troubled the top six, then made a real play for a top two spot.

He started 41 matches last season and with this season's tally added that's 69 starts in little over a season and a half. He's clearly an influential figure at Bramall Lane and a key general of the manager.

In that time he's bagged three goals, the last of which came in a 3-0 win at Bolton earlier this season. He's also weighed in with ten assists, making him a  threat at the top end of the pitch. He's not an attacking midfielder as such, he's a more traditional player who can get from box to box and affect play at either end.

He does get on the ball, with an average of 1.7 successful dribbles per game. He also weighs in with 1.6 key passes per game, that being a pass which leads to a chance to score. His total passes during a game average 47.5, which shows him to be involved in much of the work that goes on unseen in the middle of the park.

His pass success rate is good, 78.7% of his deliveries find a teammate. The figures all add up to show he's a key player for the Blades, not one to bag a hatful or even to create a goal every other game, but a hard worker with the right ethic and reliable at the same time.
