After a difficult festive period, Blackburn Rovers will likely be looking to add some additional quality to their squad with the top six still in reach.

Tony Mowbray's side are 13th as things stand, having gone four Championship without a win, but remain within five points of the play-off places

A strong winter transfer window could give Rovers' promotion credentials a huge boost in the second half of the season and it appears they're already eyeing up a potential addition.

According to the Daily Mail, Blackburn are one of a number of sides interested in Aberdeen centre-back Scott McKenna.

The report claims that Burnley, Bristol City, Huddersfield Town, and multiple Bundesliga clubs are keen on the defender, who was valued at £6 million by Aberdeen in the summer.

It appears that Rovers may face some tough competition for the Scotsman and might be forced to fork out a fair amount of cash to get the deal done.

But is it worth Blackburn doing everything they can to secure McKenna's services? We put a spotlight on his performances this season to find out.

McKenna has been a key man for Aberdeen this season, with only a four-game absence due to a thigh injury keeping him out of the side in the Scottish Premiership.

The 23-year-old has started 17 times in the league for the Dons this season, all at centre-back, and helped them climb up to fourth in the table.

Only three teams have conceded less than Aberdeen in the Scottish top flight this season and McKenna's performances at the heart of their defence have been key to that.

The Scotsman has been solid in the 2019/20 campaign, winning 76.1% of his defensive duels. That in part has been due to his strong reading of the game, as evidenced by his average of 4.76 interceptions and 3.88 clearances per game.

The 6ft2ins defender is particularly strong at dealing with balls into the box, something that will likely be required of him should he make the move to the Championship. In total, McKenna has won an impressive 68.7% of his 134 aerial duels so far this season.

The central defenders in Mowbray's side are required to distribute the ball a lot, as evidenced by the fact that the three players with the highest average passes per game in their squad are centre-backs. That shouldn't be an issue for McKenna, who has an impressive pass success rate of 77.4% this season.

The Scottish defender appears to have everything that you would look for in a central defender and at just 23, he should only get better over the next few years.

Given the competition, signing McKenna may not be easy or cheap but at this point, it looks worth it.
