Whilst Nottingham Forest are still in the hunt for a play-off place, they still haven't convinced and there are serious doubts about Aitor Karanka's future as boss.

After a big summer, some felt the Reds could 'do a Wolves', after they recruited heavily and built what looked like a strong squad.

And, the statement signing, like Ruben Neves' arrival at Molineux, came in the form of £13m club-record capture Joao Carvalho.

Whilst that is a pretty lazy comparison as the two play in different positions and arrived in the Championship with different experience, the Forest man was expected to make a similar impact.

However, as our graphic shows, he hasn't really hit the heights expected.

That's not to say he hasn't contributed this season, because three goals and six assists is a fairly respectable return and it's clear he has a lot of ability.

Yet, the feeling is that he should be doing more to justify the hefty outlay.

Forest are a tough, resilient side most of the time and that has put them in a decent position, but they need that spark in the final third to ensure their season can really take off.

On the whole, Karanka has given Carvalho a freedom to play as a number ten, with limited defensive responsibility and he needs to be more productive.

You have to take into account that he's in a new league and a new country but the East Midlands side need an immediate improvement.

Clearly, he has the talent and now it's down to the former Benfica man to take his game up a level to drag Forest back to where they feel they belong.
