Nottingham Forest will face arch rivals Derby County in the second round of the Carabao Cup, after brushing aside League One outfit Fleetwood Town by a goal to nil on Tuesday night.

The Reds' Championship season had started off in mixed fashion, with Sabri Lamouchi's side redeeming themselves with a battling 1-1 draw with Leeds United at the weekend, after falling to a home defeat against West Brom on opening day.

As perhaps expected ahead of this Saturday's clash with Birmingham City, Lamouchi made nine changes to his side on Tuesday night, with Carl Jenkinson, Brice Samba, Yuri Ribeiro and John Bostock coming in and making their debuts for the club.

Joe Worrall and Tiago Silva were the only players to keep their place in the starting line-up after the 1-1 draw with Marcelo Bielsa's side on Saturday, and it was Silva who was the standout performer for the Reds in midweek.

The Portuguese playmaker was named as their man of the match on the night, after impressing in midfield and scoring the winning goal that sent them into round two of the Carabao Cup.

Here, we take a look at why he was so impressive against Fleetwood on Tuesday night...

After two decent performances in the league, Silva showed what he is all about on Tuesday night, coming up against a solid, organised team in Fleetwood Town who the Reds were unable to break down for the large part.

Silva started in a midfield three of himself, Samba Sow and Bostock, with the Portuguese playmaker being used primarily as a number 10, and the more attacking midfielder out of the trio.

But the midfielders kept interchanging throughout the game, with the 26-year-old often dropping into the holding midfield position to build attacks from the back and get the ball rolling, quite literally.

Silva played for the full 97 minutes, and as alluded to before, he scored the game's only goal, slamming home into the roof of the net from inside the box after a magnificent lofted through ball from Bostock.

The classy midfielder also accrued a pass success rate of 76%, with 41 out of his 54 passes finding a teammate. He also completed four out of five successive dribbles throughout the contest, accruing a rate of 80%.

As touched upon before, Fleetwood came to frustrate at the City Ground - they created plenty of chances themselves, but sat two holding midfielders behind the ball as Forest struggled to break down their packed midfield.

Due to the proximity of the two sides' midfielders, Silva often found himself on the receiving and giving end of tackles, winning 10 out of 19 duels in the middle of the park as well as making two interceptions.

Many thought that Forest would miss the creativity of the injured Joao Carvalho in the early stages of the season, but his fellow countryman has more than stepped up to the plate in his absence, and he was their star-man in midweek for sure.
