After the recent appointment of Martin O'Neill, Nottingham Forest fans will be hoping that the Irishman can get their bid for the play-offs back on track.

The 66-year old arrives at the City Ground hoping to guide Forest back into the top six, with the Reds sitting four points off the play-off places, despite an influx of big-money signings in the summer.

Former boss Aitor Karanka was backed heavily by the Forest hierarchy in the summer, with the likes of record signing Joao Carvalho and Diogo Goncalves arriving from Benfica.

But the latter has found it extremely tough since his loan switch from Portugal, and has seen his game-time be limited since his sending off against Stoke City in September. Having been linked with a move back to his home country, here, we take a look at Goncalves' season stats in detail, with a new regime arriving at the City Ground...

After emerging as an impressive youngster at Benfica, Goncalves arrived in the East Midlands with high expectations, especially after displaying his talent in pre-season.

But the season just hasn't gone the way that everyone expected it would pan out - the winger has made just four appearances for Forest in the league, failing to score or find an assist in any of those games.

It's not like he's in and amongst the action either - despite making an average of 16 passes per game with a 73.4% success rate, only 0.8 of those passes have been key. The 21-year old has managed to record an average of only 0.3 shots per game, has drawn only 0.5 fouls per game, and going backwards he offers very little, completing an average of 0.8 tackles per game.

Having made just one appearance for the Reds in over three months, Goncalves' time to impress is running out, and with O'Neill looking to ignite another play-off push this season, the winger will be fearing for his future at the City Ground.
