It is likely to be a busy end to the month for Nottingham Forest, with the January transfer window slamming shut on Friday evening.

The Reds face Brentford in what a battle between two promotion-chasing sides in West London tonight, but all attentions will then quickly turn to potential incomings ahead of the final few days of the window.

Forest have made just the one addition thus far this month with Adama Diakhaby arriving on loan from Huddersfield, but Sabri Lamouchi will be keen to add to that list come Friday night.

On the outgoing front, Jack Robinson, Rafa Mir and Claudio Yacob have all recently departed the City Ground, and it is likely that other fringe players will find themselves following suit.

One player who Forest fans will be desperate to keep hold of is full-back Matty Cash, who has arguably been Forest's player of the season so far.

The 22-year-old has been in exceptional form for the Reds this season, producing a series of impressive displays at right-back and establishing himself as one of the best in the division in that position.

Cash was a natural winger up until the final two weeks of pre-season, where he was converted into a right-back following a lengthy injury to Tendayi Darikwa.

But the homegrown star hasn't looked back since, and is now believed to be attracting interest from AC Milan, Southampton and West Ham United.

Forest will obviously be reluctant to lose Cash in the final few days of the window, and have, hence, slapped a £18m price tag on the defender's shoulders, as per The Sun.

Here, we take a look at Cash's season in further detail and discuss whether he is worth that kind of money...

For a player who has only played at full-back for around seven months, Cash has made real strides under the watchful eye of Lamouchi and has gone from strength to strength since his opening day goal against West Brom.

The full-back looks so natural in attack - as to be perhaps expected from a player who came through the ranks in that position - and his overlapping runs constantly cause problems for the opposition.

This season, Cash has made a total of 71 progressive runs and has formed an impressive understanding down the right-hand side with Joe Lolley.

A key part of Lolley's game involves the winger cutting in from the right and onto his powerful left foot, which in turn creates space for Cash to run into and whip in a delivery.

Cash has recorded four assists in a total of 30 appearances this season. These came against Barnsley, Stoke City, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers, and all four of them came from crosses from the right flank.

Cash has also accrued a pass success of 72.6% this season, which shows that his passes tend to be really accurate and precise.

Defensively, though, this is where Cash has made real strides of improvement. In total, Cash has won 60.2% of his defensive duels this season, which is a solid statistic given that most teams' attacks tend to come down the flanks.

He has made a total of 111 appearances this season which shows that his positioning has really improved, as well as making a total of 210 interceptions this term.

Cash has everything in his locker to become one of the best full-backs in the country - he has all the makings of a modern-day full-back, in that he is just as comfortable at going forward as he is at going backward.

Having signed a new deal at the club until 2023 in November, Forest are truly well in their right to demand big bucks for Cash, and you even feel that £18m would be a snip for a player of his quality.
