Nottingham Forest endured a frustrating weekend in the Sky Bet Championship, with the Reds being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Queens Park Rangers at the City Ground.

The Reds would have been looking to pick up from where they left off after a battling 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion last time out, where they scored a brilliant stoppage time equaliser to earn a point.

But Sabri Lamouchi's side were unable to get back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon, as they came up against a resolute QPR side managed by Mark Warburton.

Joe Worrall thought he headed Forest into a 1-0 lead on 12 minutes, but the goal was disallowed after some delay after the ball moved before Joe Lolley's corner.

To mark an end to what was a frustrating afternoon in the East Midlands, Samba Sow is doubtful ahead of the Reds' trip to South Wales to face Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

Sow was missing from the squad against QPR due to a reoccurring knee problem, and the Reds missed his drive and power in the middle of the park at the weekend.

Tiago Silva moved back into a deeper midfield role alongside Ben Watson on Saturday, and here, we take a look at whether he is the man to continue playing in Sow's absence...

Silva usually plays as an attacking midfielder in Lamouchi's side, but Saturday saw him drop into a holding midfield role which he has played in on a couple of occasions this term.

The Portuguese midfielder was replaced by Joao Carvalho on 79 minutes, which saw Ryan Yates drop into midfield and Carvalho move into the number 10 role.

As he always tends to be, Silva was clever with the ball and played a vital part in helping it tick over in midfield, accruing a pass success rate of 85% after completing 39 out of 45 passes successfully.

The midfielder also helped the Reds drive forward, but not as efficiently as Sow usually does, making only one progressive run and a 100% success rate from two dribbles.

But one thing that Sow brings to the team that perhaps Silva doesn't is defensive steel, which is largely down to his large presence and physical prowess.

The 26-year-old made only one interception at the weekend, and unlike Sow, Silva doesn't break up the play as well as his teammate which puts a lot of responsibility on Ben Watson.

Silva did win a fair share of his duels, winning five out of seven successfully, but against a physical, well-drilled Cardiff side, it remains to be seen what will happen.

If he is the man to be selected once again, then he will be looking to improve on Tuesday.
