Luton Town are facing a very important summer transfer window with some key decisions needing to be made over which players they bring in and which they allow to leave the club.

The Hatters are in a strong position to build for the future now with Nathan Jones having performed a good job since he took over the club for his second spell in charge towards the end of last term. It has been a vey promising campaign for them and they could have a chance with the right signings to push for a potential top-six challenge next season.

Jones’ side were linked with a few potential arrivals during the January transfer window, while there were also one or two rumours circulating back in the winter window about potential departures.

With that in mind, we look back through seven transfer rumours that concerned the Hatters over the winter window that could be revisited this summer…

One potential January transfer rumour that the Hatters could revisit in the summer window involves potentially making a renewed effort to bring in West Brom’s Kyle Edwards.

The Hatters were reportedly close to bringing in Edwards on a loan deal until the end of the campaign towards the end of the January transfer window. It was believed that Luton were leading the race for his potential signature with them looking to improve their options in the forward positions during the winter window.

However, in the end, no move materialised and Edwards and remained with the Baggies for the rest of the campaign.

The winger is set to be out of contract at the Hawthorns in the summer, and after making just five Premier League appearances could be available on a free. Luton could do a lot worse than making a move for him and he has shown some promising form in the Championship before at the Hawthorns.

Another potential transfer rumour from the winter window that Luton might be wanting to revisit in the summer is their interest in in-demand Gillingham midfielder Kyle Dempsey.

It was reported back in the winter window that the Hatters had joined the race for the midfielder’s signature, alongside the likes of Barnsley, Preston North End and Nottingham Forest. Dempsey’s form for the League One club in the first half of the campaign was very good and that had seen him attract plenty of interest. However, he ended up staying at the Priestfield Stadium.

Dempsey is continuing to be linked with a move away from Gillingham heading into the summer window, with Nottingham Forest reportedly still having him on their radar. Therefore, Luton might face another battle for him if they were to reignite their interest. It is believed that he is being valued at around £500,000 to £750,000.

In the midfield area, Luton could also potentially revisit a rumour from the January transfer window that involved them bringing in a potential new signing. That was around Swindon Town midfielder Scott Twine.

Twine was reportedly on the Hatters’ radar in the winter window, alongside the likes of Queens Park Rangers and also Barnsley. That came with the midfielder enjoying an impressive campaign with his spell on loan at Newport County and also his form at Swindon. In the end, the talented midfielder remained with the League One club.

However, Swindon have now been relegated and it seems likely that Twine will be heading for a move to a higher level this summer. Luton might be able to renew their interest and make a move for the midfielder. However, they would be likely to face a lot of competition for his signature.

One player who Luton will surely be looking to move on in the summer, as they were in the winter window, is defender Brendan Galloway.

Jones admitted to the media in the January transfer window that he believed that Galloway was in need of finding a club to move to on loan for the rest of the campaign. However, the defender was unable to secure a temporary move away from Kenilworth Road and has instead stayed with the club for the rest of the season.

Galloway, though, has been unable to force his way back into the fold really and it does look likely that the defender is going to be made available for transfer in the summer. He needs a new start you feel to get his career back on track in the next few years.

This could be another transfer rumour from the winter window that the Hatters might want to revisit, with Luton maybe keen on trying to make a renewed move for Andre Green.

Luton were reportedly one of the sides that were interested in bringing Green into the club in the winter window on a free transfer after he had been released by Aston Villa.

However, the forward instead made the move to Sheffield Wednesday in January. The Owls though might be relegated to League One on the final day which could potentially mean the Hatters could try and sign him.

Green has recently suggested that he is wanting to remain with the Owls, even if they are set to be relegated to the third tier. The forward though might be tempted potentially to make a move to Luton if they were in a higher division and came back in for him in the summer.

This is a transfer departure from the winter window that could well be repeated at Luton during the summer, with Elliot Lee potentially set to make a permanent exit from Kenilworth Road.

Lee was allowed by the Hatters to make a loan move to Oxford United for the rest of the campaign in January. That came with him having fallen down the pecking order with him having made just 12 appearances in the Championship in the first half of the campaign. Since his move to League One, the attacker has managed to chip in with five goals and two assists in 17 league matches.

The 26-year-old is set to be out of contract at Kenilworth Road when he returns in the summer from his loan spell with Oxford. It seems unlikely that he will be remaining with the Hatters and he might be a good potential signing for the League One club again in the summer.

This is another transfer that happened in January that the Hatters might want to revisit in the summer transfer window. With Tom Ince potentially a player they could target once again.

Ince was signed by the Hatters in the winter window from Stoke City on a loan deal until the end of the campaign. The attacker has not been able to make as big of an impact at Kenilworth Road as he would have been aiming for, and has suffered issues with injury as well. However, he has recently suggested he is wanting to assess his options in the summer when he returns to the Potters.

It would perhaps be something of a gamble for Luton to sign him and hope they could get more out of him next term. Ince though is still a player with a lot of ability and could make a difference if Jones could get the best out of him. It is one that is at least worth considering.
