Tranmere Rovers regained their Football League status after a three-year absence in May and they'll be keen to build a side capable of ensuring they don't go straight back down.

Leading scorer Andy Cook has recently signed for League One Walsall, so they may well be looking to add a new striker to their ranks.

They could do much worse than looking to the Championship, maybe for a season long loan for teenager Mallik Wilks.

Wilks spent time at Accrington and Grimsby last season and was once coveted by Everton as he rose through the Leeds ranks.

His progression has been halted somewhat recently, but he looks prime for a move to a League Two club once more.

FLW shines a spotlight on the 19-year old, asking if he could do a job for Tranmere Rovers.

Wilks made 25 appearances across the two loan spells last season, scoring three times. Those goals all came for eventual champions Accrington Stanley, as his Grimsby move was cut short by injury. He did score two EFL Trophy goals for Accrington as well, his last coming in the 3-2 defeat at Lincoln City.

Of those 25 games only seven were Football League starts, with the rest coming from the bench. He played 871 minutes in total, meaning he scored once every 290 minutes. It isn't a spectacular record, but with so few starts it may not be an accurate reflection of his ability. After all, a 19-year old adjusting to a division two below his own needs games under his belt, not twenty minutes here and there from the bench.

Wilkes has yet to break through at Leeds and that task looks much harder with a new manager at the helm. His best chance for regular football is going to be in League Two, maybe instead of Everton he should choose Tranmere on Merseyside and look to fill the substantial boots vacated by Andy Cook.

It could well prove to be a match made in heaven as the highly rated striker thrives in a creative and aggressive side such as Tranmere Rovers.
