Amid all the chaos of Eddie Nketiah firing Leeds United to a 1-0 victory over Brentford last night, Pawel Cibicki’s departure went somewhat under the radar at Elland Road.

Leeds have been working hard all summer long to free themselves of fringe players brought in under previous regimes, but with the European window still open, that job is not done yet.

Yesterday, Leeds moved to announce the departure of Cibicki, with the 25-year-old joining ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie on a season-long loan.

That deal has the option to become permanent at the end of the season, which would bring Cibicki’s difficult three-year spell at Leeds to an end.

Ultimately, since his arrival in 2017, things haven’t worked out for Cibicki, and we’ve not seen him in a white shirt since the days of Thomas Christiansen.

In this FLW Spotlight, we take a look at his Leeds impact…

Over the course of his time with Leeds, Cibicki managed only 648 minutes, which came in seven Championship appearances, two League Cup outings and a solo FA Cup fixture.

In that time the former Swedish youth international failed to score a single goal and provided just two assists.

Despite both those assists coming from crosses, there were only 33.3% of Cibicki’s deliveries finding a Leeds player, which equals a measly 12.

Cibicki managed seven shots on target, which was a percentage of just 28.6%, highlighting how the forward’s efforts on goal really struggled to test goalkeepers up and down the country.

Despite featuring in a forward-thinking Christiansen set-up, Cibicki had only eight touches in the opposition box, with that tally perhaps one of the contributing factors to his limited output in terms of goals and assists.

Finally, the Swede managed to win just 41 offensive duels (29.3%). That’s an awfully low figure, with Cibicki just not matching up to the physical demands that the English game can put on you.

Some will have felt Cibicki might be better suited to Marcelo Bielsa’s way of playing, but Leeds have moved him out and will look to cut ties next summer.

And, when you consider the likes of Nketiah are delivering like they did last night on their Championship debut, it is easy to understand why Cibicki isn’t quite cut out for a promotion push.
