Sunderland extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a 0-0 draw against Doncaster Rovers on Friday night.

It was the visitors who dominated the first half as their pressing game forced the Black Cats into a number of errors that almost caught the home side out on several occasios.

Phil Parkinson's side looked a lot more dangerous in the second period though, as they dominated play and pushed Darren Moore's side back into their own half.

Chris Maguire and Duncan Watmore has some decent chances to make something happen, but Phil Parkinson's side will have been satisfied with a point based on the balance of play.

However one player who really impressed was Luke O'Nien.

We took to Wyscout to look at the numbers behind the 25-year-old's display.

It might not have been a night that went Sunderland's way in terms of results, but they'll be very happy with Luke O'Nien's display.

The 25-year-old played his usual position down the right flank - a role which is particularly key in Phil Parkinson's new 3-4-3 system.

O'Nien is solely responsible for that area of the pitch and so it's crucial that he puts in a performance which effective in both defence and attack.

He certainly did that.

Playing 96 minutes against Doncaster Rovers, O'Nien racked up some pretty impressive numbers.

Over the course of the game the right-sided played won eight defensive duels, made nine recoveries and won an impressive 10 aerial battles against Darren Moore's side.

Considering his role on the right side of midfield those numbers are very impressive.

He also showed his quality going forward.

Can you name every Sunderland player's shirt number this season?

Despite a couple of poor decisions in the final third, O'Nien boasted a forward pass accuracy of 77% which showed his desire to get the ball forward effectively in order to hit Doncaster on the attack.

He also made seven progressive runs over the course of the match, showing why he's just so effective when utilised from a deep-lying position.

O'Nien will undoubtedly be a big part in Sunderland's hopes of securing promotion, but if he can put in more performances like this then few would bet against them pulling it off.
