Grimsby Town's season has started to tail off in recent weeks following a bright start to the campaign, which saw them win three of their opening six matches under Michael Jolley.

However, a run of seven matches without a win saw Grimsby's momentum halted and Jolley left the club by mutual consent following a 4-0 defeat at home to Leyton Orient in mid-October, with Anthony Limbrick taking over as the club's interim manager.

Given Grimsby have found themselves sliding down the League Two table, they are in need of putting together a positive run of form to help turn their season around and get them moving back in the right direction.

In order to have the best chance of doing that Grimsby might need to back whoever they appoint as the club's new permanent manager in the transfer market in the forthcoming January transfer window.

Keeping this in mind we take a look at SEVEN players who should be on Grimsby's radar in January...

Currently a free agent having been part of Bury's squad before they were ejected from the Football League earlier in the season, Bunn would be a low risk addition for Grimsby, with the attacker capable of playing in a number of positions along the forward line meaning he would be useful for covering injuries to other players.

Bunn made 24 appearances on loan at Southend United last season, scoring four goals as he helped the Shrimpers retain their League One status, and the 26-year-old has proven to be a useful player especially at League Two level making him a potentially wise investment for a number of sides in the division.

Quigley has been in impressive form for Barrow in the National League so far this season, with the striker scoring 12 goals for Ian Evatt's side who currently sit on top of the table following an impressive start the campaign.

The 27-year-old has yet to fully show his quality in the Football League, having had fleeting spells with both Port Vale and Blackpool, but his form this season shows he could well be ready to make the step up to League Two - and Grimsby could well benefit from having a player with his current confidence levels joining the club.

Another player currently showing some fine form in the National League so far this season is Bromley forward Cheek, who has scored eight goals in 20 appearances so far this campaign having joined the club from Ebbsfleet Town where he scored 16 goals last term.

The 28-year-old looks ready to make his mark at a higher level and could offer Grimsby some much needed extra fire power in the final third were they to bring him in January.

Grimsby could do a lot worse in January than pursue a move to sign Sheffield United attacker Ricky Holmes, having joined the Blades following an impressive start to the season with Charlton Athletic in League One in the 2017/18 season, but the move to Sheffield United had not payed off and he has found himself way down the pecking order.

Holmes, though, is still a very good player at League One and Two level and he would be able to provide the sort of flair needed to win tight matches were Grimsby to bring him in in January.

Grimsby could look to sign Brown on loan from Huddersfield Town in the January window, with the promising midfielder yet to really make a mark in the first team at the Championship club since making the move from Forest Green Rovers in the summer transfer window.

Brown was excellent for Forest Green last term, scoring 11 goals in 45 appearances in League Two and he offers the sort of flair that is needed to win tight games in League Two, whilst also offering the ability to play as both a midfielder and a number ten.

Reid has been one of the best performers in the National League for Torquay United so far this season, helping the club make the step up following their promotion last term - and the forward already has an impressive tally of 14 league goals so far this season.

The 25-year-old's finishing ability as well as his link up play would make him a real valuable addition at Brundell Park, and he certainly help to improve Grimsby's fortunes in the attacking third of the field.

Another player who Grimsby should consider making a loan move for his Liverpool's Kane, who was one of the standout players in league One last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, providing ten assists for Grant McCann's side and adding a real creative flair to the side.

Kane returned to Liverpool in the summer and has only made one appearance for the Reds so far this term, meaning that another loan move for the 20-year-old would be a good option in January. The midfielder would not be short of suitors and Grimsby would face a real battle to sign him but if they could it would be a real coup for the club.
