A recent dip in form will likely have left Dean Holden feeling that he could do with making some additions to his Bristol City squad in January.

The Robins are still within reach of the top six but if they want to keep pace, adding some more quality could be a clever move.

January and the start of the winter window is less than three weeks away, so you expect preparations to be well underway at the South West club.

With that in mind, we've outlined seven players that should be on City's transfer radar...

The Newcastle winger nearly joined City's Championship rivals in the summer and would help solve an issue currently facing Holden.

Beyond Antoine Semenyo, the Robins lack a bit of pace in the final third and proper wide forwards to play when they set up in a 4-3-3.

Aarons looks to be on his way out of Newcastle United and could be just what City need.

The Arsenal man showed his quality in the Championship last term and could give Holden another creative option – either in central areas or out wide.

Opportunities have been hard to come by for Smith-Rowe with the Gunners this term, so a loan move would make sense and the Robins should be looking to benefit.

Another that seems as though he could benefit from a loan move and one with pace to burn, we've seen how dangerous Clarke can be at Championship when he's at his best.

Things didn't quite work out for him last season but he could be a fantastic option for Holden to turn to from the bench late in games.

If City want to add a winger with proven quality in the Championship, it's hard to look past Grosicki.

The 32-year-old's record in the second tier is excellent and he looks likely to be leaving West Brom having not been named in their Premier League squad this term.

Wilks has been in phenomenal form in League One this term, scoring eight times as Hull City have climbed to the top of the table.

The forward is quick, direct and someone that is capable of producing moments of magic – he should be on the Robins' radar.

Maybe this is just the romantic in me but if the Robins want a winger, which they should, bringing Bolasie back to Ashton Gate could be a smart move.

The 31-year-old is clearly excess to requirements at Everton and has undoubted quality, his homecoming could be a real boost for City.

Semenyo is the only forward in the City senior squad that is younger than 28, so signing an up-and-coming talent like Watters could be a good bit of business.

Clubs are starting to circle after the 21-year-old's fast start to the season for Crawley Town, which has seen him score 12 in 12 in the league, so the Robins may have to get their act together if they want to bring him to the club.
