Millwall head into the final day of the Championship season with a chance of securing a play-off spot.

They'll need a rather dramatic swing and results elsewhere to go their way but that they're in this position is to the credit of Gary Rowett and his squad.

The Lions don't have the sort of budget that many of the sides around them in the table are working with, which makes the fact that they're in the running particularly impressive.

Rowett knows that the south London club are going to have to work smart again this summer to make the most of what funds they do have as he looks to improve his squad once again with a view to challenging for the play-offs next term.

Getting business done early could be key for the Lions and with that in mind, we've highlighted seven transfer dealings we could see happen as soon as next month...

The big story at Millwall heading into the summer is the future of talisman Jed Wallace, who showed his quality from the bench in the 3-0 win against Peterborough United on the weekend.

Wallace is out of contract in the summer and yet to sign new terms after drawing plenty of links elsewhere in the last window.

There's a good chance that the winger will leave but if Premier League offers aren't there for him, Rowett may just be able to convince him that staying on at Millwall is the right move.

Stokes City loanee Benik Afobe bagged his 13th goal of the season against Posh, hammering in a half volley at the second attempt.

The striker has enjoyed an impressive loan spell at The Den and is surely someone that the Lions should be looking to keep hold of.

Rowett has admitted it won't be easy but Stoke will surely want to get him off their wage bill once and for all, which may play into Millwall's hands.

Afobe has enjoyed his football at the club this term so it's surely a move that would appeal to him.

The Millwall boss has already revealed that the club are open to offers for defender Mahlon Romeo, who has spent the season on loan at Portsmouth.

The 26-year-old was deemed excess to requirements by Rowett and it seems that remains the case.

With Cardiff one of the sides linked, it would be no surprise if a deal for the defender was done fairly quickly – though with the right-back under contract until 2024, the Lions will want a fee.

There have certainly been signs that Rowett has been beginning to get the best out of Sheffield United loanee Oli Burke.

The 25-year-old has so much raw talent but has struggled for consistency in recent years.

He's had those same issues at The Den but there have been moments that may convince the manager that with more time to work with him, he could help the forward kick on.

Rowett has hinted he would be interested in re-signing him if the opportunity arises and getting a deal done early could work for both parties.

Another loanee named by Rowett as someone he'd like to keep, Daniel Ballard is set to return to parent club Arsenal in the summer.

The 22-year-old looks like a player with a bright future and prizing him away from the Gunners permanently may be far too costly.

The Millwall boss has already admitted that the club would be interested in another loan deal and that should suit Arsenal as well so there's no reason things couldn't be wrapped up quickly.

20-year-old centre-back Alex Mitchell has spent the season on loan at Leyton Orient – featuring 29 times so far – and looks a candidate for another loan move in the summer.

The defender is still young and could be an option for Millwall further down the line but he's not at Championship level just yet.

That should mean they seek another loan for him and sending him out early on would allow him to have pre-season with his new side.

Injuries have meant Luke Freeman has played just 13 minutes of football during his loan spell at Millwall.

Even so, it would not be a huge surprise to see the club target a fresh deal for him in the summer.

His creativity and spark in midfield is exactly what the Lions should be looking to add in the upcoming window while it appears clear that Sheffield United are keen to get rid.

Again, getting things sorted early on could make sense for all parties involved.
