Middlesbrough still possess a chance of securing a Championship play-off spot with the second-tier coming to its conclusion this Saturday.

Boro travel to Preston North End knowing that only a victory will give them a chance of creeping into the top-six on the final day of the campaign.

Chris Wilder's side will be hoping that his former club Sheffield United taste defeat at home to Fulham, although a draw could also work in Boro's favour.

They will also be keeping close tabs on how Luton Town get on, with the Hatters set to face Reading, with the Hatters two points ahead.

A point below Middlesbrough, Millwall also possess an opportunity to break into the top-six, with the Lions facing Bournemouth on the final day.

Whilst we wait and see how this exciting final day pans out, we take a look at seven Middlesbrough-related transfer dealings that could happen relatively early into the summer...

The immediate future of Uche Ikpeazu remains to be seen, with the physical forward finding himself out on loan at Cardiff City as things stand.

It would appear that the 27-year-old will not be in Wilder's plans next season if he was reluctant to keep hold of him and recruit within the frontline in January.

His potential availability would likely attract a lot of interest, given the sheer amount of chaos he can cause in the final third.

Lee Peltier could depart the club when his contract expires this summer, with the 35-year-old playing in a more deputy role under Wilder.

Bringing a wealth of experience, he could be a shrewd addition for a side looking to bring in Championship experience, however, Boro appear to be moving in a new direction.

It remains to be seen what happens with Peltier's immediate future but promotion to the Premier League would make it almost certain that his future will lie elsewhere.

Should promotion to the Premier League not be achieved in what remains of this campaign, then Boro might face a tussle to keep hold of Marcus Tavernier.

A whole host of Premier League clubs, including Brighton and Leeds, have an interest in the exciting midfielder at some point during this campaign.

Tavernier has thrived in an attacking midfield role this season but has also impressed when tasked with operating on the wings in Middlesbrough colours.

Josh Coburn is another who might attract the attention of the higher division if Middlesbrough are not playing Premier League football themselves next season.

The 19-year-old has netted four goals in 440 minutes of Championship football this season, proving to be an exciting prospect at the Riverside Stadium.

Coburn possesses the physicality and maturity to operate in the second-tier, whilst his high ceiling would suggest that a Premier League move could be a genuine possibility.

Looking at the first potential oncoming of the summer, Jacob Greaves is someone that Boro could have on their transfer radar.

Wilder identified the left centre-back role as a position he would like to strengthen in the summer, with the talented 21-year-old certainly a player that the Teesside club should consider.

An excellent carrier of the ball, Greaves also has the passing range and maturity to operate within a side with high ambitions, whilst he is developing physically and athletically too.

Sticking on the theme of excellent ball-playing central defenders that are left-footed, Kal Naismith is another that could certainly fill that perceived void.

In fact, Middlesbrough were credited with an interest in the Luton man, as per a Football League World exclusive back in March.

Possessing excellent versatility too, Naismith is someone who can fill in at left-wing back, within the midfield, and has even played further up as an out-and-out winger during his career thus far.

Perhaps strengthening his left wing-back options could be deemed necessary by Wilder as summer looms, with Union SG left-back Matthew Sorinola a potential option.

The exciting full-back, who has featured 14 times for the club currently leading Belgium's top-flight, was linked with a move to Swansea City late last month, but Boro could certainly join the race.

Providing a real attacking threat, he is also someone that has proven to be a tough opponent to come up against, with Sorinola excelling with MK Dons before his Belgian adventure.
