Ahead of what is shaping up to be a hugely intense couple of weeks for all concerned with Wigan Athletic, Paul Cook will still be casting one eye on the summer, with plenty of players' contracts set to run out at the DW Stadium.

Gavin Massey has been a name linked with a move away in the summer, but the main player that everybody will be hoping to keep is attacking midfielder Nick Powell, who has been influential for the Latics over the last couple of years.

The 25-year old, who played an integral role in their promotion from League One last term, has since carried his form across to the current campaign, and if it wasn't for his goals, Wigan would surely be down by now.

But instead, Paul Cook's men are still in with a massive chance of avoiding the drop back to the third tier, with the Latics sitting just two points above the dreaded relegation zone.

Powell is a name who has been linked with several high-profile clubs over the last couple of weeks, with the likes of Celtic and Rangers both exploring the option of landing the playmaker on a free transfer.

A move to one of the best teams in Scotland is no mean feat though, and here, we take a look at his stats from the season so far to see if he would able to make the step-up.

Powell has made 28 Championship appearances this season, returning seven league goals for Paul Cook's side and registering a further six assists. He is currently the club’s top scorer in all competitions, along with Joe Garner.

Those strikes have come from an average of 2.6 shots per game, with the attacking midfielder's link-up play also impressive this season, winning 2.5 aerial duels per game and completing one average key pass per game.

A fantastic player in behind the striker, Powell clearly has a knack for scoring and producing plenty of goals, accruing a pass success rate of 65% in the Sky Bet Championship this term.

Compared to the likes of Callum McGregor at Celtic and Ryan Kent at Rangers, Powell is practically contributing to the same amount of goals in England, and you feel that if he can transfer his form over to the SPFL, he could be one of the best signings the league has seen in a long time.
