Sheffield Wednesday have had to rely on youth of late thanks to their injury crisis and one man who has benefited is 21-year-old Sean Clare.

He has grabbed his chance with both hands and as Owls boss Jos Luhukay might be looking for more of that youthful exuberance to overhaul a squad that has underwhelmed without question this season.

It has been an inauspicious start to his reign at Hillsborough but Luhukay will be looking to keep Wednesday out of relegation trouble - that is all they have left to play for, following their FA Cup exit last night - before shaking up his squad in the summer.

With that in mind, we've taken a look at seven young players currently playing their football in the EFL that Wednesday should be having a closer scout at in the summer to bolster their squad after a season that has fallen well below expectations...

Senior joined Colchester United from Brentford but his chances to show his undoubted talent have been limited by serious injury problems.

Now he is getting back to fitness, the tricky forward is causing League 2 defences problems and will be a key part of it if the U's manage to clamber back into the top seven.

Bayliss is another player plying his trade in League 2 with Coventry City and caught the eye during the Sky Blues' run to the fifth round of this season's FA Cup.

He is a classy central midfielder who is not afraid to put his foot in and that has drawn admiring glances from teams higher up the pyramid.

Wednesday should be in the hunt.

Aston Villa winger O'Hare is popular among the club's fans who are becoming frustrated about the lack of game time being afforded to him by Steve Bruce.

He is fearless but just needs a run of games to get his confidence up and find out what life in the second tier is really all about.

Luhukay has played 3-5-2 so far but if he needs an old school winger as a plan B then O'Hare fits the bill.

Clarke-Harris is another man, like Bayliss, playing his football at Coventry right now and he was outstanding despite Sky Blues' 3-1 defeat to Premier League Brighton in the FA Cup fifth round.

He has pace, directness and an eye for goal and would make a change from Wednesday's experienced but aging striking options.

Yearwood is only 17 but has turned out for Southend United's first-team in League One and has a bright future ahead of him.

This one would be a little bit more of a risk, given Yearwood's tender age, but if he continues to develop as he has been doing, a queue will soon start to develop. Wednesday could get ahead of the crowd.

Cole has been around so long that it feels slightly wrong to describe him as a wonderkid but he is still only 22.

He is scoring goals for Fleetwood Town in League One and there has been plenty of interest in his signature from clubs including Rangers.

He is lightning fast and would offer a totally different threat to what Wednesday have right now.

Green is another Villa youngster who could flourish elsewhere and if Villa decide to let him leave - even on loan - Wednesday should be very interested.

He is direct and can make things happen and still only 19. If Villa make it to the Premier League, a deal might be there to be done.
