Over the years, many Championship sides have been branded with the mark of being a dirty side, but in reality who deserves that title?

Here we look at the sides who have been involved in the dirtiest Championship matches of all time utilising data from worldfootball.net

Rotherham United travelled to Elland Road to face Leeds United in November 2015 and came away with a 1-0 victory, but the match will be remembered for the two red cards and seven yellow cards brandished by the referee in a match where both sides ended up with 10 men.

Leon Best was shown a red on 73 minutes for the Millers, while Gaetano Berardi was also given his marching orders on 74 minutes.

Crewe Alexandra hosted Queens Park Rangers in April 2001 with the match ending in a 2-2 draw following a remarkable Crewe come-back in the final four minutes.

The match also stands out for the three red cards and five yellow cards shown by referee Mr Cowburn.

Millwall made the trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley in November 2005 with the Clarets taking all the points in a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Burnley finished the match with 10 men after James O'Connor was given his marching orders on 72 minutes, but Millwall went one better with both Ben Way and Jody Morris being sent off on 45 and 70 minutes respectively.

Hull City saw off Burnley in March 2008 as Phil Brown's side secured a 2-0 win over Owen Coyle's Clarets in a match where both sides ended up with nine men each.

Folan and Okocha walked on 70 and 76 minuted for the Tigers, whilst Caldwell and Gudjonsson where shown red on 71 and 77 minutes. Overall referee Mike Riley showed four red cards and three yellows.

Wolverhampton Wanderers hosted Swindon Town in October 1997, with Steve McMahon's Wolves side securing a 3-1 win over a Robins side managed by Mark McGhee.

The match referee Chris Foy had a busy afternoon though handing out three red cards and four yellow, with Steve Bull (Wolves) and Lee Collins (Swindon) walking on 15 minutes whilst Chris Casper was shown red on 67 minutes for Swindon.
