West Bromwich Albion have made an enquiry to bring Everton defender Mason Holgate back on loan to the club, according to the Daily Mail.

Holgate made a total of 23 appearances during the second half of last season at the Hawthorns, and new Baggies boss, Slaven Bilic, is now reportedly keen on bringing him back for the season ahead.

The 22-year-old made the right-back slot his own under Darren Moore and then caretaker boss James Shan, while he also proved his versatility by slotting into right-midfield occasionally.

Holgate could be set to become the Baggies' fourth signing of the window after deals were completed for Filip Krovinovic, Kenneth Zohore and Semi Ajayi.

So, would Holgate be a good addition to Albion's ranks again this season? We take a close look at the stats from last term...

Holgate became a regular for the Baggies after making his debut in early January, and he only missed two league fixtures during his time at the club. This meant he played an impressive 2670 minutes during the second half of the campaign and was only substituted twice.

The Barnsley academy product is a confident ball-playing defender, but he recorded 70.2% passing accuracy last season which he will look to improve next term. Many of the failed passes would have arisen as a result of Holgate's eagerness to launch attacks from deep, and this is reflected in the fact he completed an average of 7.48 long passes per game. This reveals Holgate's ability to quickly transition play with strong effect, but it remains to be seen how much he will be told to deploy this tactic in Bilic's new system.

Holgate's ability to get forward is also reflected in the fact he made an average of 3.24 crosses per game despite playing largely at full-back. He is more than capable of getting forward into dangerous positions, and this is a stand-out trait for West Brom who will be aiming to build a progressive and attacking side under the new boss.

He also excels in the air, as he stands tall at 6ft 1in and possesses the physicality to muscle off his opponents. This saw him win an average of 4.35 aerial duels per game and reflects the fact he is not just good in attacking from deep, but he also has strong defensive traits.

Holgate can also use his speed to react quickly and win the ball back which saw him make an average of 4.82 interceptions last season. This is an impressive statistic which reflects why many West Brom supporters are eager to see the defender re-join the club on loan. The statistics show that Holgate is a forward-thinking defender who is also solid at the back, and his performances last season showed he has settled in well at the club.

He is still young at 22, so it is very much possible that Everton could offload him again this season and West Brom should be doing all they can to try and snap him up once again.
