At the start of the season it looked like it would be Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers challenging for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship.
However, we have reached February and Leeds’ challenge is faltering, whilst at Molineux, Wolves go from strength-to-strength in the promotion race, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side seemingly having one hand on the title.
Leeds have been reliant on Samuel Saiz to drag them along at times this season, whilst the same can be said for Wolves and Diogo Jota, who is perhaps the Championship’s best talent.
Here at FLW, we crunch the numbers behind Saiz and Jota, comparing their stats so far this season.
£7.2m-rated Jota has been superior to his rival in most areas this season, scoring 13 goals across all competitions for Wolves, compared to the nine that Saiz has registered at Elland Road.
Saiz might have registered more assists than Jota, with five, as well as averaging more key passes per game, but there is no denying that Wolves’ Portuguese playmaker has had the bigger impact in his debut Championship season.
Jota averages more shots per game, as well as completing more dribbles, whilst he also averages a higher number of passes at a higher success rate than Saiz.
Leeds United and Wolves fans… What do you make of these numbers? Is Jota superior? Let us know your thoughts!
