According to the Derby Telegraph, Huddersfield Town’s bid of £7.2m for Derby County’s Tom Ince was way short of the Rams’ valuation of the player.

Having secured promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, David Wagner’s Huddersfield are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Reports suggested Town were interested in taking Ince from Derby on a season-long loan, but the Rams have refused to let the 25-year old leave on-loan this summer, which led to Wagner’s side returning with a permanent offer.

Their bid of £7.2m falls way short of Derby’s valuation of Ince, and was swiftly rejected by those at the Pride Park Stadium, although Town are reportedly readying an improved bid.

Ince was once again Derby’s standout performer during the 2016/17 campaign, scoring 14 goals in the Sky Bet Championship and adding six assists as the Rams finished the season in ninth.

Despite Ince again showing his value to Derby over the last 12-months, Gary Rowett could look to sell the forward this summer, to raise transfer funds.

Rowett has prioritised strengthening his defensive options early in the summer, with Curtis Davies joining from Hull City and Derby interested in signing Andre Wisdom from Liverpool, with the two clubs close to agreeing a deal for the versatile defender.
