West Bromwich Albion are set to sell striker Zhang Yuning next week after he was recalled from his loan period with ADO Den Haag, report the Express and Star

Yuning was signed from Vitesse Arnhem back in the summer of 2017 for just under £7million but has never played for the Baggies, being sent out on loan for the past two campaigns.

During the 2017/18 campaign, he failed to make a single appearance for Werder Bremen despite being with the club for the entire season before being sent to Den Haag in the summer where he has gone on to play six times but failing to score.

The entire transfer fee paid by the Baggies two years ago was paid by the club's owner Guachon Lai and Yuning is now set to join an unnamed Chinese Super League club.

West Brom currently sit in fourth place in the Championship table, just one point behind second-placed Sheffield United as they look to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

The two teams clash this weekend in what is set to be a crucial match in the race for promotion in the second-tier with Norwich City and Leeds United likely to be keeping an eye on proceedings too.

The verdict

What a waste of time this was.

But ultimately it is of no harm to the club seeing as they were not the ones paying his wages or the transfer fee.

It simply leaves the chairman a bit red-faced that his bid to bring a Chinese superstar to the Premier League failed quite horrifically.
