Portsmouth got their latest season in League One underway last Saturday with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Hillsborough faithful were treated to a wonderful spectacle in which both teams held a leading position before succumbing to a 81st minute equalising goal of the game.

Danny Cowley’s side will be disappointed not to come away with all three points having led until the closing stages, but a draw at the Owls will be looked back on as a good result at the end of the campaign.

New signing Colby Bishop got off the mark for Pompey, scoring the third goal of the game for his side and the fifth of the match total.

It was an impressive 74 minute display from the forward, who has scored 10+ goals in each of his last three league seasons.

Here we will take a look at the numbers behind his performance, using stats courtesy of Sofascore…

Last season Portsmouth needed a consistent goal scorer, and now Bishop has arrived to take a stake at that spot in the team.

Getting a goal on his debut will be a big boost to his confidence, but he needs to improve on his tallies from previous campaigns to really take on the mantle of Pompey’s leading man if the team is to fight for promotion.

Two shots on target, plus a shot that struck the woodwork, is a good haul for his first performance in Cowley’s side, especially away to one of the favourites for automatic promotion.

Offensively, he didn’t offer a whole lot else to the team however which will need to be worked on.

His passing accuracy was 69 per cent, completing 11 of 16 attempts.

Bishop managed no key passes, attempted no dribbles and only had 22 touches in his 74 minutes on the pitch.

He won 40 per cent of his aerial duels, which is actually a decent return from 10 attempts coming from the front.

The Englishman won both of his ground duels as well, showing a great tenacity to keep hounding after the ball to keep possession for the team.

However, the 25-year old lost the ball seven times and contributed very little defensively out of possession.

So while his shot-making skills earned him a debut goal, there is still plenty of work to be done for Bishop to get finely tuned into this Portsmouth team.
