Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has stated the names of two players who he would have signed for Nottingham Forest had he been appointed as the Reds’ boss during the summer, according to the Nottingham Post.

Warnock was in talks with Forest over taking over the managerial position during the off season but ultimately the East Midlands-based outfit opted to appoint Philippe Montanier instead of the proven Championship gaffer.

The ex-Sheffield United manager has revealed that he was in talks with both Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett about moving to Forest with him during the summer.

Warnock has since taken both players to Wales after getting the Cardiff City job, but given his comments on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday, things could have been very different.

The 68-year-old said: “I had a couple of players up my sleeve, I was talking to Bamba and Hoilett about Forest but then it just didn’t come off."

Warnock says he was disappointed not to get the job and believes that he could have done a good job at the City Ground had Forest appointed him.

He continued: “I just thought they had a good team.

“I think they just needed two or three more players there but then it never materialised.”

Warnock has overseen a dramatic revival at the Cardiff City Stadium and yesterday’s 5-0 hammering of Rotherham United has the Bluebirds in a relatively safe 12th place.
