Derby County continue to go about their business in the Sky Bet Championship quietly, with Gary Rowett’s side seemingly on the verge of playing themselves into genuine contention for a place in the top-six this season, after a run of impressive results.
Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road has lifted the Rams to the brink of the play-offs, and Rowett’s side will move into the top-six if they pick up all three points against Leeds United at Elland Road on Tuesday, which they will be confident of doing, with Thomas Christiansen’s side on a worrying run of form.
Here at FLW, we take a look at the starting XI we believe Rowett should select against Leeds, starting with a defensive unit that are excelling at this current time. Scott Carson should continue in goal, behind a defence of Craig Forsyth, Curtis Davies, Richard Keogh and Andre Wisdom, who will feature from left to right.
Tom Huddlestone and Joe Ledley have done an excellent job of shielding the defence in Rowett’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, and it would be a surprise to see the duo not feature at Elland Road. Ahead of them, we are expecting Bradley Johnson to once again feature on the left and Tom Lawrence on the right, with Matej Vydra keeping his place despite Rowett indicating a change could be made.
Our only change comes in attack, where Rowett has hinted that Chris Martin and Sam Winnall are both pushing for a starting berth at Elland Road. We believe that £675k-rated Winnall will be the man Rowett turns to, with the on-loan striker replacing David Nugent as the focal point of attack.
