Preston North End laid down yet another marker in their push for promotion on Saturday, as they beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 at Deepdale.

It was a result that ended the Terriers' run of seven games without defeat, and ensured that North End go into the November international break second in the Championship table.

Goals from Jayden Stockley and Alan Browne would give Preston a 2-0 half time lead at Deepdale, before Paul Gallagher's penalty shortly after the re-start all but secured the points for Alex Neil's side, despite a late strike from Huddersfield's Juninho Bacuna.

One player who was required to put in a big performance on Saturday was Gallagher himself, with the 35-year-old drafted back into the starting lineup to replace injured top scorer Daniel Johnson, just as he had done from the bench in a 1-0 win at Charlton a week ago.

So how did Gallagher cope stepping back into the starting XI on Saturday?

Here, we put the spotlight on the midfielder's performance in order to find out.

While at this stage of his career, it may be difficult for Gallagher to come through the full 90 minutes of too many games, it does seem as though the 35-year-old is still trusted to make a significant impact for Preston when he does get on the pitch, and his stats against Huddersfield do seem to back that up.

Just as he did when he came off the bench against Charlton last week, Gallagher would fire in yet another spot-kick this weekend, with his effort against Huddersfield giving his side a potentially vital three-goal buffer, given the pressure the Terriers put them under after Bacuna's late effort.

Despite the fact that that penalty was his only shot on target, Gallagher still had a big impact in other areas of the game, not least with a brilliant free-kick that cannoned back off the woodwork to be headed in by Jayden Stockley inside the first five minutes to give his side the perfect start to to the game.

Furthermore, with a pass success rate of 65%, Gallagher does seem to have been someone who had the potential to help unlock Huddersfield's defence on Saturday, given he was more successful than not in that area, even if he may feel that that overall percentage is slightly below par for his standards.

Even so, with the midfielder completing six successful duels and making six interceptions during his time on the pitch, it does appear as if Gallagher was also capable of both causing trouble for the Terriers in one on one situations, and stepping in to make a defensive contribution when needed on Saturday.

With so much of the season still left to play, there are many who feel as though it is going to be a big ask for Preston to maintain their current lofty position in the Championship standings.

If Gallagher can continue to put in performances like this however, then there is no reason why the 35-year-old cannot help Preston to do just that, and then he may even get one more shot at the riches of English football's top-flight, ten years after his last exploit at that level, with the midfielder surely doing enough to earn an extension to his contract, which is set to expire at the end of this season.
