Sheffield United moved back into the Championship’s top two places after their win over promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening.

Chris Wilder’s men were third before last weekend’s evening clash at the Hawthorns knowing a win would move them back to second and even further away from their hosts.

The win moved the Blades onto their third successive victory and extended their unbeaten run to six matches – with only two draws in that time.

Darren Moore’s side dominated the match in terms of shots on goal, possession, total passes and pass accuracy.

But for all of the ball they had, they were unable to do what United did, and put the ball in the back of the net.

A narrow 1-0 win in what was a pretty resolute away performance showed the hallmarks of a promotion winning side.

And the three points were secured all thanks to Kieran Dowell.

The Everton loanee managed to pop up and head home inside the first quarter of an hour, and that was his most telling contribution in a match that in reality passed him by a little.

He scored with his only shot on goal and from then on it was backs-against-the-walls for the visitors.

Dowell had a total of 61 touches in the game, amassing just 3.4 per cent of possession for the whole game – making his time on the ball short but telling with the winning goal.

When he had the ball, he was effective with it as with the 61 touches he had, 30 of them were passes – with 25 being completed.

Despite his efforts, they were still some way off the top passing stats in the match – again highlighting his effectiveness by and large.

Dowell managed to complete one dribble from the only one he attempted, as well as winning just one of the five aerial battles he faced.

The Everton loanee was some way off the pace of the top performers in the match, but he was able to make his contribution a telling one stepping up to head home on 14 minutes.

Thanks to a resolute and dogged defensive display from the Blades, it was all that was needed secure the three points and propel the Blades back into the top two, at least for the meantime.
