Charlton are looking to bolster their side over the next few weeks as new owners have come into the club to help them achieve their ambitions.

East Street Investments confirmed their takeover of the club over a week ago, and have already offered current boss Lee Bowyer a new contract.

Alongside that, it looks as though the Addicks are leading the race to sign highly-rated League One star Marcus Maddison. The player has been key for Peterborough over the last few campaigns and has shown his talent once more this season.

The player could bring a whole host of different qualities to Charlton and has an excellent amount of experience to make him suitable for the step up to the Championship this season. It is somewhat a surprise to see Peterborough letting the playing go, with the League One side still in with a chance of promotion in the current campaign.

The attacking-midfielder has already scored nine goals so far in the current campaign which shows from deep positions he still has an eye for goal. As well as finding the back of the net, he is also a creator and has managed six assists during this season's League One campaign.

Many see him as a somewhat luxury player to have in the side and his close ball control with rival a player such as Jonny Williams for a place in the Charlton starting XI. The Addicks have struggled massively with injuries for months now, and one of the things they have missed throughout is a real source of creativity for goal-scoring chances.

This is why a move for Maddison makes perfect sense. He doesn't just attack either, he knows how to work back and what his responsibility is for the team. Maddison has made 25 interceptions over the course of the League One campaign and not many attacking midfielders in the division can boast a similar record.

It would be a very good signing for the Addicks, and dependant on how much they get him for, it would be considered a real coup for Bowyer and his side.
