With Charlton Athletic's injury crisis worsening by the week at the moment, Addicks boss Lee Bowyer could well be looking to dip into the January transfer market for reinforcements, with the Charlton midfield in particular lacking any real depth.

With key midfielder Josh Cullen being sidelined until after the Christmas period and Beram Kayal also seemingly being ruled out of action for a while, Bowyer is very light of options in the centre of the park at present.

The Charlton boss has even had to rely on the services of several youngsters in recent weeks, with Albie Morgan, James Vennings and Alfie Doughty all being in around then first team set up to make up for the loss of more senior personnel.

The January transfer window couldn't come at a more welcome time for Bowyer and as such we have drawn up a list of SIX potential signings that could bolster Charlton's midfield ranks....

Crooks is a player who would certainly fit the bill for what Charlton require at present in midfield, with the 25-year-old having displayed fine form for Rotherham United this term in a more advanced role, scoring six and assisting one for the Millers.

The former Glasgow Rangers man is equally adept at filling in as a deep-lying playmaker and as a box to box player, making him an ideal candidate for Bowyer's preferred midfield diamond.

Another League One midfielder that would fit into Bowyer's high tempo style is Oxford United playmaker Cameron Brannagan, the former Liverpool man has been in fine form for the U's, scoring five and assisting five from his role in centre midfield.

He would add a good passing range to the Charlton midfield whilst also offering a much needed goal threat.

Given the already existing relationship between Charlton and West Ham which was formed through the loan of Josh Cullen, the Addicks could once again turn to the Hammers and potentially acquire the services of young midfielder Conor Coventry on loan from the Premier League side.

The 19-year-old midfielder would in theory provide a great engine in the centre of the park for the Addicks, whilst he also possesses a sound range of passing.

Skipp is certainly a player who would benefit from a temporary spell away from his parent club, with the Tottenham Hotspur youngster having found his game time limited this campaign by the likes of Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele.

The 19-year-old would bring good experience and a high work rate to the Charlton midfield, thus representing a good stand in for Cullen.

Another Premier League prospect who could greatly benefit from a loan spell in the Championship is Chelsea's Scottish midfielder Billy Gilmour, with the youngster having recently broken into the first team squad at Stamford Bridge.

Given the impact that Conor Gallagher has had at the Valley, Bowyer could be keen to once again delve into the loan market and utilise his relationship with Chelsea to bring in the Scotland under-21 international.

With the best pass success rate in League One at 83.5%, Whiteman represents a player that would bring so much creativity to the Charlton midfield, with the Doncaster man having already racked up an impressive average of 67.9 passes per game.

The 23-year-old would offer Charlton a player who can both screen the defence, whilst also being the main catalyst from which attacks can start, with his passing range sure to get the best out of Macauley Bonne and Lyle Taylor.
