After just missing out on the play-offs last season, Peterborough United have made a promising start to their new campaign in League One.

The Posh are currently fourth in the table, five points outside the automatic promotion places and are the top scorers in the entire Football League.

There's still a long way to go, but Peterborough's start to the season has given fans at London Road plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about the campaign ahead.

Despite their encouraging start to the season, manager Darren Ferguson will still be looking to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, to ensure that his side have the best possible chance of challenging for promotion.

With this in mind, here are SIX players who should be on Peterborough's transfer wish-list in January...

Lloyd Isgrove is a player that Peterborough fans will be familiar with, following his loan spell at London Road in 2014. A creative midfielder is a priority for the Posh in January, and Isgrove already has five assists for Swindon Town in League Two this season.

He's already got a decent amount of experience in League One and Ferguson will know how to get the best out of him. He's primarily a winger, but he's also comfortable playing in other midfield positions - so he'd able to create chances for the likes of Ivan Toney and Mo Eisa.

It's a bit of ambitious one, but Isgrove is out of contact at the end of the season and could be tempted but the chance to return to League One.

Cheltenham Town midfielder Ryan Broom is a player that has been linked with a move to Peterborough recently and he could be a decent signing for the Posh.

The 23-year-old has six goals and four assists for Cheltenham in League Two this season. He doesn't have a lot of experience in League One, so it's a bit of a gamble, but it could be a risk worth taking.

Ivan Toney and Mo Esia have been banging in the goals for fun for Peterborough so far this season, but the Posh could still do with another striker to act as backup.

Danny Rose has scored seven goals for Mansfield Town in League Two this season and he could be a decent option. He's an exciting young striker and clearly has a lot of potential - he could be able to make the step up to League One.

Kabongo Tshimanga has scored twelve goals for Boreham Wood in the National League this season and he could be a decent signing for the Posh.

It would obviously have to be considered a huge gamble, given his lack of experience in League One, but the club have not been afraid to sign players from non-league in the past.

The 22-year-old still has a lot to learn, but an experienced coach like Ferguson could be able to get the best out of him and help him realise his potential - just look at what he's been able to do with left-back Frazer Blake-Tracy this season.

Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty scored ten goals and registered eleven assists while on loan at Shrewsbury Town last season, so he'd definitely be able to make an impact for the Peterborough in League One.

The 23-year-old has got a lot of potential, but he's found first-team chances hard to come by at Rangers this season, so there's a chance that he could be open to going out on loan again in January and he'd be a very good addition for the Posh.

Exeter City winger Randell Williams has seven assists in League Two this season and could be a decent signing for Peterborough.

The 22-year-old would certainly suit Peterborough's style of play under Ferguson and he already has some experience in League One having spent last season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers.

He only joined Exeter in the summer though, so it's a bit of an ambitious one in that sense, but it could pay off.
