Wigan Athletic will be looking to get themselves safe from relegation if and when the season resumes as they look to avoid a return to League One after a couple of years away.

Paul Cook continues to strive for results and has some decent players at his disposal, so he'll feel confident that he can secure safety soon rather than later.

In the meantime, though, we've been looking at some players that perhaps didn't shine at the club during their time there.

Here are six of the worst Latics signings...

Mauro Boselli arrived with little known about him and, though that element of surprise can sometimes work in a club's favour, it didn't here.

He started just five of his 15 appearances in total and scored just the one goal, before being let go in 2013 and considered a flop.

Antonio Amaya might not even be a name many recognise, given he didn't actually play a single league game for the Latics.

He arrived from Rayo Vallecano and was loaned back there fairly soon after, before a permanent exit a year later.

Jason Scotland was a fine player in the EFL but the jump up to the Premier League just didn't seem to work for him.

It took 29 games for him to score a goal for the Latics and he'd not add to that tally.

He was sold back to the Championship thereafter.

Holt's arrival made plenty of sense with the record he had at Norwich but it did not work out for him at Wigan.

Latics fans would have been hoping for the goals to keep flowing but he managed just a trio of strikes as his time at the club was interrupted by more than one loan spell away.

Similarly, Marlon King's arrival had potential given his scoring exploits at Watford but it became clear pretty quickly that he was not going to be able to replicate things at the Latics.

He managed just the one goal for the club, before being let go permanently fairly shortly after his arrival with off-field matters grabbing the headlines.

Julius Aghahowa was a striker but the goal record he had did not exactly suggest that.

He signed for a decent fee for Wigan but never hit the net during his time at the club - nor did he do so largely anywhere else he played.

It simply did not work for the Latics here.
