Stoke City have had their fair share of players that simply haven't hit the heights whilst with the club over the years. 

Their days of playing in the Premier League will feel like a distant memory now, after a number of years in the top-flight, where they upset some of the bigger teams.

The Potters are now playing their football in the Championship, and are sat eighth in the second-tier standings, whilst also being just two points adrift of the play-off positions.

Sørensen signed on a free transfer after leaving Aston Villa, having fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park.

The shot-stopper went on to make 127 appearances for Stoke, although he struggled for regular minutes towards the end of his time with the club.

He later joined Melbourne City, but retired from his playing career in the summer of 2017, at the age of 41.

Diao signed on a free transfer for Stoke City in December 2007, after spending time on loan with the Potters from Liverpool.

The defensive midfielder went on to make 107 appearances for Stoke, before leaving at the end of the 2011/12 season.

That proved to be his last spell in football, and he was a strong servant to the club in his time with them.

Sidibé signed for Stoke on a free transfer after turning down a new deal with Gillingham.

The forward was signed by Tony Pulis, who was sacked just four days after his arrival. However, that didn't impact his game time, as he went on to make 181 appearances across an eight-year spell with Stoke.

Sidibé chipped in with 25 goals and 14 assists in his time with the club, before departing at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Simonsen is the second goalkeeper up on the list, as he signed on a free transfer after being released by Everton in the summer of 2004.

He went on to make 183 appearances for the Potters, and played a key role in their promotion-winning season into the Premier League in the 2007/08 season.

But Simonsen found game time hard to come by whilst they were in the top-flight, and left the club on a free transfer, before joining Sheffield United.

Asaba signed on a free transfer from Sheffield United in 2003, and made 71 appearances for Stoke whilst they were in the Premier League.

He wasn't a consistent goalscorer, but played his part for the Potters whilst they adjusted to life in the top-flight.

Asaba left in May 2005, after submitting a transfer request, before joining Millwall.

Akinbiyi signed for Stoke City on a free transfer after impressing in a loan spell with the club.

He made an instant impact with the Potters as well, and scored 19 goals in 64 appearances for them, but his impressive showings didn't go unnoticed.

Akinbiyi signed for Burnley after just two seasons with Stoke, and signed for the Clarets for a fee in the region of £600,000.
