Nottingham Forest haven't been shy when it has come to making signings in recent years.

This season, the Reds brought in 14 new players to add to a squad which now consists of around 30 first-teasers.

Last season, they also made several changes under Sabri Lamouchi, with plenty of players now on the books on Trentside.

Some of those players have flattered to deceive, but there are some who have arrived and made a really positive impact.

Here, we take a look at six of the best free transfers Forest have made...

Before last season, Watson wasn't really a popular figure amongst Forest fans, but he quickly became a key player under Sabri Lamouchi.

The experienced midfielder - who arrived on a free from Watford in February 2018 - made 45 appearances in the Championship last season, and was an influential player in their push for promotion.

They miss him in holding midfield this season, it has to be said.

Dawson has barely put a foot wrong since re-joining the club on a free transfer.

He wears his heart on his sleeve and was a key member of the squad both on and off the pitch under Lamouchi last term.

Vaughan spent time on loan at Forest before joining on a free transfer in 2014.

The experienced midfielder made over 110 appearances for the Reds before departing for Notts County in 2019.

The 37-year-old was a quality player for Forest.

De Vries arrived at Forest in 2013, and he really stepped up to the plate after Karl Darlow moved to Newcastle.

The Dutchman is arguably one of the best goalkeepers Forest have had in the last decade, before moving to Celtic in 2016.

Ameobi's performances have divided opinions amongst Forest fans since he arrived on a free transfer from Bolton last summer.

The winger scored six goals and added nine assists for Forest in their bid for promotion last term, though, and his stats have been impressive since joining the club.

Having previously left the club to join Tottenham as a youngster in 2005, Reid returned after joining on a free transfer from Blackpool in 2011.

In his second spell at the City Ground, the Irish midfielder made 130 appearances for the club, and he is now their Under-23s' manager.
