The brand spanking new EFL season gets underway in just over a week from now as Luton Town take on Middlesbrough on Friday 2nd August at Kenilworth Road.

It'll be an exciting way to kick the new campaign off, too, with Luton up from League One as Champions and Middlesbrough boasting Jonathan Woodgate in the dugout now after he replaced Tony Pulis.

Plenty is set to unfold over the coming months, then, and among the different gongs that are up for grabs come the end of the campaign, the Championship top scorer award is set to be keenly fought for.

Teemu Pukki won it last season as he beat Billy Sharp and Tammy Abraham to the award but it looks as though none of that trio will be in the second tier this season.

A different name could be getting the Golden Boot, then, and here we're looking at six players that are bound to be in contention...

Aleksandar Mitrovic put pen to paper earlier this summer to sign an extension with Fulham and it's clear that he's a player capable of scoring well over 20 goals this campaign.

He's good enough to be in the Premier League so for Fulham to have him sticking around is a real statement of intent.

Fuelled by Knockaert and Cavaleiro he is certainly one to watch.

Grabban actually had a decent season numbers-wise last year despite coming in for some criticism.

Playing in a Forest team with quality but little consistency, he was still deep into double figures come the end of the campaign.

With a new approach at the City Ground this season, Grabban could prove once again he's one of this division's most lethal marksmen.

Kemar Roofe spearheaded Leeds' attack for much of last season and when he was injured he was clearly missed by the club.

If he can stay fit, Leeds have another good chance of earning promotion but with a lack of depth any issue could prove detrimental for sure.

Sharp in the box and very industrious, you can see why Marcelo Bielsa has his faith in the striker.

Assombalonga is a powerful forward that on his day can give any side in the division the runaround.

He perhaps struggled at times last season with a system that didn't create many chances and at times it was clear he was a frustrated figure.

However, he will be eager to show he has more than still got it this season and with Jonathan Woodgate set to let Boro loose more than Tony Pulis, he is one to keep an eye on.

Neal Maupay started the season in scintillating form last year for Brentford and was a challenger for the Golden Boot thereafter.

Certainly, he will score goals again for Brentford this year - if he is still at the club - and should get the attention that was wrongly withheld from him last season.

A striker that's only set to get better with age too.

Swansea still have McBurnie on their books and whilst that is the case they will have a chance of making the play-offs.

He's a powerful forward with plenty of ways of scoring goals available to him. He can finish, score from range and crash home headers, making him very tough to stop when he gets a chance.

If Swansea can provide for McBurnie he could enjoy another fruitful year.
