Luton Town will be on the lookout for a new manager in the coming months after they made the decision to part company with Graeme Jones on Friday.

The Hatters, who are 23rd in the Championship and six points from safety, explained in a statement on their official site that they are looking to 'reduce its cost base'.

Therefore, the decision to remove Jones, who was only appointed at the start of the season, was a financial one and they made it clear that they are not interested in finding a replacement immediately as they look to see how football comes through this current situation.

However, it's obviously something that will have to be addressed moving forward and here we look at SIX potential candidates they should consider...

We'll start with the obvious one.

Nathan Jones enjoyed incredible success with Luton, taking them to League One and building a stylish team, so he knows the club and many of the players.

There's no denying the way he left angered many but he is looking for a new job after Stoke sacked him and it would seem to be a good fit.

Next up, club legend Mick Harford.

He is acting 'as a relationship manager between the board, staff and the playing squad on football matters' right now and would be able to do the job easily.

After Nathan Jones left, he took over and the team won promotion to the Championship with ease - and he is also a favourite with the fans.

This is undoubtedly the most ambitious name on the list but it's certainly possible.

Robinson is currently in charge of Motherwell and he has done brilliantly at the club, bringing through youth, making shrewd signings and playing good football - all on a budget.

If they could convince him of the long-term project at Kenilworth Road, it would be a real coup.

Going down the leagues is another option for the Hatters and the Newport County boss is a standout candidate.

Again, he has proven he can work with limited resources and is a bright, emerging coach that is ready to make the step up after a few excellent years in his current role.

Heckingbottom is out of work after a tough spell at Hibs and in truth he hasn't found the right job since leaving Barnsley.

That would be a concern but the similarities between the Tykes and Luton are clear to see. He will be encouraged to bring through younger players, look for bargains and he could thrive in that environment.

Finally, Evatt could come into the thinking of the hierarchy.

His work in the National League with Barrow has been outstanding and they were on course for promotion to the Football League before the enforced break.

If Luton want to take a risk on an exciting younger option, Evatt would fit the bill.
