Leeds United have very little to play for this season after a very inconsistent campaign, with too many players failing to maintain high standards that were set in the first few months.

The Whites head to Preston tomorrow looking to secure a first away win in nine and will need to improve on Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland if they are to leave with their first three points on the road in 2018.

However, North End have lost three consecutive games and now sit six points behind the play-offs, so Leeds will hope they can take advantage of that.

The game could be decided by moments of magic in the final third, with Ezgjan Alioski and Tom Barkhuizen two important players for either side.

The Macedonian has faltered in recent months, much like the team, only scoring one goal since November, although his total of six from out wide is respectable.

Meanwhile, Barkhuizen has been instrumental to the success of Alex Neil’s men, weighing in with eight goals and seven assists for the Lancashire side.

Realistically, Preston know they need a win to stand any chance of resurrecting their play-off push and Barkhuizen will be key to that.

The 24-year old will have to run at the Leeds defence, which may include youngster Tom Pearce at left-back, and will hope to create serious problems for the Yorkshire side.

For Paul Heckingbottom, his Leeds side will be seeking a first away win in 2018 and to end that dismal run several players may have to rediscover their early season form – particularly Alioski.
