6 goals, 6 assists; Should Leeds United take a look at this forward in the summer?

Plenty of Championship sides secured an upgrade in the striking department during the January transfer window.

Leeds United were in the market for a frontman throughout the window and secured the signing of Tyler Roberts from West Bromwich Albion, before sacking the manager who brought him to the club, Thomas Christiansen, not long after that.

He has potential but Roberts does not have Championship experience so we have run the rule over the second tier to examine whether there were any options that Leeds could have pursued.

One name that came up was Tom Barkhuizen of Preston North End, who lost striker Jordan Hugill to West Ham United last month, and we ran the numbers to see what he could bring to the party at Elland Road.

With six goals, six assists and one key pass per game, his numbers are solid and he is playing in a Preston side who have held their form much more than Leeds have and are an outside bet for the play-offs.

His passing is strong and he has hardly been out of the fold for Alex Neil’s side – Leeds could certainly do worse.

The Verdict

Preston are not the most fashionable side but the sale of Hugill shows that there are other clubs around giving their players admiring glances.

What that Hugill does mean is that there is now no pressure on the club to sell a key asset, unless a great offer comes in and that might be Leeds’ biggest stumbling block.
