Queens Park Rangers are not heading in the right direction right now, despite them picking up their first win of the campaign recently.

The size of the task ahead of Steve McClaren is huge. His side are due to be hit with a transfer embargo this January and currently look threadbare as it is. They've got a lack of experience and possibly a lack of quality.

The loan market patched that up to a degree, certainly Hemed and Wells have added some firepower, but that is only the start of the rebuilding.

For McClaren, the free agent market is the only way to go, so we've identified six players currently without a club that could benefit the Hoops in the coming weeks.

The QPR defence has looked very poor and despite bringing in Angel Rangel, they still look really light at the back.

The 35-year old might not have the legs to carry through 90 minutes every week, but with Glen Johnson as back up, they'd look more solid.

He's got big game experience too so could be a wise capture.

Again at the back, Kirchhoff is at least Championship experienced and young enough to inject some energy into a flagging defence.

He can step forward into the midfield too, so would offer versatility as well as a fresh pair of legs.

The one-time £3m striker is without a club after leaving Serie B side Carpi, perhaps instead of Elland Road he could try Loftus Road?

There has to be value in the player, Leeds wouldn't have paid him interest in the first place if not. It's out of left field, but he could do a job in the lower reaches of the Championship

Here's an attacking midfielder with Dutch international honours, currently without a club.

He last played for FC Twente and maybe McClaren's connections from his time there could set up an unlikely deal.

He'd certainly bring an element of flair to a rather stiff looking QPR side, plus he'd be great for Ebere Eze to learn from.

He'd bring Premier League experience and offer cover at left back, Assou-Ekotto might not be fresh, but he'd certainly fit.

He knows the club too, he's been there on loan before, but needs regular football after leaving Metz in the summer.

Ireland would bring an experienced presence to the midfield they don't currently have.

There's lots of young players with big futures in there, but nobody who can exert influence and know-how. That is one thing Stephen Ireland has in abundance.
